Slightly off topic (maybe) but I finally watched The Wall. Yes, I know. A film fag hasn't seen arguably the definitive cult musical but I have my reasons. Namely, I don't like musicals -sans the work by Trey Parker & Matt Stone- and I'm not a fan of Pink Floyd. If I want to listen to 70's prog rock then I'll listen to Goblin, thank you very much.
So it's funny to watch all of these video analysis of Doug Walker's abortion and finally seeing the work that which birthed the abortion. Something something Greek mythology metaphor.
Visually, the film is fantastic. Just expertly done. The music I liked quite a bit. I am a little tempted to edit out the music and put in my own soundtrack however blasphemous that might be to some. But I liked it. Great film.
Doug's video is so intentionally misreading the movie that it seems like he has a personal vendetta against it. Someone in one of the response videos joked that perhaps Doug had a bully who wore Pink Floyd shirts? That honestly seems plausible. Or he liked a girl who was into Pink Floyd who rejected his advances. The uncle who molested him mentioned the movie once. Dark Side of the Moon happened to be on while his mother lay on her death bed. Something like that. Because his video is so spiteful and contrarian. It comes off as "Fuck this movie. Fuck this album. Fuck this band. Fuck these people. Fuck everyone involved in this."
I don't think it was him using this as an opportunity to show his filmmaking and singing skills because he could have picked any musical to parody. He deliberately chose The Wall out of some petty balled up hatred that has been brewing for god knows how long.
I'd like to see the asshole try to make the same kind of video attacking Eraserhead. It would go over just as poorly and would probably lead to David Lynch calling him a retard during his daily weatherman videos.
