$ (ETH) Ethereum - ETH and the Ethereum Project General Discussion

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
The details of the new London update to the network are really exciting for people who already hold ETH. Helping restrict supply and closing the loophole to allow paying for Gas with your debit or credit card is going to mean price increases. There is also more and more network adoption as people realize ETH is less of a resource hog then BTC. I am expecting a very good year.

Well I hadn't used it for at least four years if not five so maybe that's still the case?
I'm not sure if this will help, but if your firmware is lower than 1.5.2, it may be possible access your funds.

Not sure exactly your problem though, if a firmware update bricked your device or your pin/seed is lost or not getting accepted. Unfortunately, it's not easy to replicate and requires some custom code that probably won't be hosted anywhere trustworthy of your ETH.

I would only go that route as a literal last resort, and instead pester the pajeet tech support every hour on the day until you get through to someone. Never forget the powerword of the white woman "I want to speak to your supervisor". Eventually you'll get to someone who has enough responsibility to get things done but also the amount of apathy to fix your problem asap so they can go back to solitaire.

Earlier I commented ETH was like gold in a bank backing up the banks ledger. But with the recent surge in MANA, a NFT backed by Ether for an in game Token, I've realized something profound

Ethereum can ascribe a real world and legally recognizable value to the Skin economy. In game microtransactions no longer have to be sunken costs. The value of an MMOs in game currency can now have a convertible measure via the ethereum network. Warcraft Gold can have an actual dollar to Gold value. Skins you buy can have a in court provable chain of ownership. All through the Ethereum Networks Distributed protocol of Tokens.

Does nobody else realize what this means? Am I full of shit? This is a fucking revolution.

Not at all. There's already some projects that are paving the way to merge digital/physical in more ways than one. Decentraland is a second life kinda game built on crypto. Look into projects like Chiliz. Flow token is leading the way into NBA hot shots and soon to be UFC.

Kings of Leon just put out an NFT music album -- now ask why the fuck do you think Twitter Jack just bought a Jayz's failing music platform?

Even if games don't support crypto (even though they will), there will be swap tokens that'll allow for crypto<->goods developed for them.

Cheesy book, but "Ready Player One" had a majority of people making money in their digitial virtual reality game, swapping game items for real world currency just to eat. I expect that in the future, but instead of an awesome game created by an autisitic genius, it'll be EA Madden NFL2039.

Warcraft Gold can have an actual dollar to Gold value.
You know it already has for years and years, long before Bitcoin was even invented, right? Real-world value comes from people's willingness to exchange real money or goods for things. Ethereum (or whatever else) is just one possible bookkeeping mechanism.

So is it looking good for ETH holders?

ETH is going to the moon. Big investment firms are rolling out their DeFi strategies and they all involve Ethereums network.

If I was looking into Eth what would be a good wallet for it? I considered getting a hardware wallet but then I found out about people getting doxed buying them. Reputable software wallets would be electrum and mycelium, which are both BTC only. It got me thinking, how do most people even store altcoin, I can't imagine there is much support for all the shit people can buy. Does it survive by virtue of being worthless?

I'm definitely going to fuck up a few details here, but if an alt is built on an existing blockchain like Ethereum (ERC20 tokens) and Binance Smart Chain (BEP20) then they're already supported by any wallet made for those networks — in fact most wallets can be configured to run on various other networks. For other tokens worth their salt that use their own blockchain, there's usually already community support provided in the form of their own wallets or extensions for existing wallets (e.g. SolFlare/Sollet for Solana tokens).

If you're just starting out with an ETH wallet, I find that MetaMask is as simple and widely-used as it gets. However, if you're serious about hodling you probably should consider a good hardware wallet. SafePal seems to be a really highly-anticipated one at the moment.

The Berlin Update went off without a hitch, so the current price of ETH is pretty much solid right now. The London Hard Fork is next. If you are holding ETH on an exchange, you may start to receive offers to Stake your Ethereum. What this means is the network is about to hold the final vote on the ETH 2 Upgrade. If you stake your ETH, you will be voting to approve the hard fork. This will also lock your ETH until the upgrade is completed. You will not be able to sell it. On the flip side however, staked ETH will transfer at the Fork into ETH 2 without any transaction or conversion fee. Unstaked ETH will have to be changed over, if the Hard Fork is approved.

At least, this is my understanding of what is about to happen. If I am mistaken someone please correct me.

Soon us will ban Bitcoin and you will lose all your money.
That guy is such a faggot. During the $GME shit, he claimed that he'd taken out a loan to buy into the stock, then went into full on panic mode saying he was going to lose his house. I think he later said he made it all up, but he's still a faggot.

Still a good time to buy ETH? I've been looking into crypto after the dogecoin fiasco. Glad I waited and watched that one (instead of investing) after seeing the volatile past week it has had.

Ethereum seems like a much safer option (has an actual business model and is not just a meme), but I know basically nothing about crypto.

go for it and get into Defi apps on Ethereum
if not Algorand, Cardano, AVAX are there
(I am not a financial guru I don't know what I am doing and neither does anyone else)

Like @irishAzoth said, few know what they're doing. I'd add that even less know how the markets work due to the massive number of factors but that doesn't make it unknowable. If you comfortable with what is essentially gambling at this point, it's never too late until it is too late. Make sure you are prepared to lose a bit what you put into it.
