It's astounding we live in a world where "plant unboxing" is a thing. Oh and a lot of the plant youtubers have merch because of course they do. A common theme is unboxing plants bought for hundreds of dollars, while the youtuber reminds the viewer, "Now, don't buy anything outside of your means. Be a financially responsible plant owner."

What's funny is there's a lot of unboxing videos that boast that they received exotic plants from Indonesia, from a company called greenspaces.id
Video is sponsored by greenspaces. Girl raves about how her plants with battered leaves are in "perfect condition." She says greenspaces is great, was great at communicating, making sure there's no foreign pests, and will ship to the US for free if you spend $300 (yikes) with them.

This video isn't sponsored. OP talks about how hard it is to hit this $300 mark to get free shipping. Getting a "sanitary certificate" to make sure your plants are pest-free and OK for customs doesn't count towards the $300 total, and the certificate is mandatory. Overall, the plants received look fine with minimal damage.

Same channel a year later, but this time greenspaces.id sent her the plants for free. Sounds like some ez promotion, except most of the leaves on all these plants are dead, or the roots extremely dry. Of course, seeing as the youtuber got these plants for free, she's willing to excuse the damage.

Reddit poster gets ghosted by greenspaces after every plant arrives dead.

There's a good amount of comments on the above videos from people in Indonesia taking note that these sought-after exotic plants grow like weeds in their backyards. I'm not accusing greenspaces.id of poaching to source their plants, but it seems like the trend of plant-posting might be giving others ideas.

Is like the cottagecore trend where they just take a bunch of old lady hobbies like baking, gardening and stiching and rebrand them for zoomers sprinkled with sjw bullshit for clout and incorporating a ton of advertising and expensive shit that was never necessary to begin with. Nothing can be left untouched , all need to be assimilated, even houseplants of all things.

i agree, clutter is clutter. Even cool things look like shit when they are piled up with dozens of other cool things, it looses its individual quality and is just a hoard. Something that is a nuisance to clean and organize too.

Oh absolutely this happened with knitting the first one I was aware of. (Amazingly, there isn't a knitting community thread on here.) I first became aware of this because my sister who is a massive hicklib got into it and it soon became just another outlet for liberal women to whine about their politics.

I hadn't noticed consoomerism with this group though but it wouldn't surprise me.

there's definitely some autism surrounding stitching, like hoarding overpriced threads and the usual shenanigans, like when buying and kneading pussy hats became a thing to fight the patriarchy for some reason. I mostly find it ridiculous that social media had to make it an lgbt poc social justice identity thing just so some girls can admit that they like traditionally girly things in current year. Perpetual Tumblrinas can't just admit they like baking and making dresses like girls since time immemorial lol, cottagecore itself seems like the conservative fantasy but you look into it and is a sea of pronouns far as the eye can see

It's becoming increasingly difficult to have a hobby that is not invaded by those people. I don't mean implicitly right-wing hobbies like guns, but others that didn't have much of a political affiliation before.

I don't mean that I have to have an echo chamber, but I want to be able to get away from politics and concentrate on things as mere hobbies as an escape. Without power leveling, one hobby that I thought was immune to it has gotten invaded by hipsters and consoomers in the last two or three years. I have maybe two other hobbies that so far have not but given that they were able to take over as you called them old lady hobbies, it would not be surprising to me to see them come over to those as well.

At its root, leftists don't believe in apolitical spaces. Everything including what is escapism to other people, has to reflect their political priorities.

The hip, online knitting community has the term SABLE which stands for Stash Acquired Beyond Life Expectancy. As in, if you knit full time for the rest of your life you won't be able to finish it. And yet they buy more. Indie dyers and their fangirls have an element of consoomerism to them, a lot of these women will buy limited edition or unusual skeins of yarn with no plans for them, and they often look crap when knit up anyway.

Theres something similar with certain artists who have wall to wall covered in expensive copic markers, expensive tubes of oil paint, expensive cans of spray paint, the latest imac, the latest Cintiq and their actual art looks like it was made by a 10 yr old with downs syndrome.

There's some artcows who are like this and are laughingstock, they keep doing unboxings and showcases of art supplies they will never use or won't even use properly because their art is basic af. A beginner can have all the supplies they need from some office store to draw every day for weeks for like 10 bucks, that really doesn't matter for someone who doesn't even have their foundation studies down and just needs to draw a lot.

they pick up animals from people who rescue them or from shelters to kill them. Black cats being common ones but not necessarily the only ones.
