That's how trauma works, though thankfully it's not every second of every day any more and hasn't been for a while. Having a 6+ hour car ride between her and me helps.

I fail to see how "there aren't enough orphaned children in America anymore" is anything but a case for why abortion access is a good thing. I would say it's a result of rising infertility levels (raising demand) and fewer unwanted kids (lowering supply) (# of kids in foster care is going up iirc, but they usually go back to birth parents- the # of truly orphaned children is going down, probably due to birth control/abortion access, sex ed, and a lower death rate from disease/childbirth leading to fewer dead parents).
Unwanted kids in 3rd world countries are still unwanted children. The concept of an orphan shortage is hilarious. Quite the 1st world problem.

You fail to see your own point. Being unable to take care of a child doesn't mean they are unwanted. If they were so unwanted they would have just given them up for adoption at an infant and been done with it. A lot of kids are taken away because their parents are drug addicts, who clean up for a while, then slip back into addiction. This cycle goes off and on for a while until they are too old and socially undeveloped to be adopted and then bounce from foster family to foster family, hopefully they end up getting straightened out, otherwise they end up going to what amounts to a mental institution. There is a lack of unwanted kids and a surplus of shitty parents, not that that will ever go away.
