Here's the reality: there was a part of the Federalist Papers where it was basically going "we are all fucked once the voters form factions and figure out they can just vote themselves more from the treasury."

That is what has happened. The Dems are a coalition of these factions:

Rich elites
Urbanized upper-middle class
Poor minorities

...who have figured out that they can effectively endlessly vote for benefits that go mostly to themselves, whether they be social or economic. That's why someone like Rachel Dolezal caused a frenzy, she was effectively stealing certain social benefits that were reserved for a certain group.

This happened to the Berniecrats too, who are much closer to real leftists than most others in the Democrat wing. You would not believe how close many of them were to dropping n-bombs when Bernie, who was objectively the best Democrat on the field for black people, got defeated near-solely by Southern blacks yet again in a repeat of 2016.
