TGWTG Nostalgia Chick / Lindsay Ellis / TheDudette - aka Hotdogs in face girl

She has more than a million subscribers on YouTube, 10k backers on Patreon, and her book barely made bestsellers lists for a week. Sales cratered after that.

Even by the standards of YouTubers who got book deals, thats not terribly impressive.
It's funny for many reasons, not least of which that she primarily self-identifies as a writer rather than a YouTuber or digital content producer. In her magnum opus of defensive sensitivity, the Mask Off video, she opened with an anecdote about a waitress in North Carolina asking her what she did and she answered writer, calling it technically correct. Yet numerous people here noted the halfassedness of her book and writing style, its need for an editor with a strong hand and her likely dismissal of any constructive criticism because she is ALWAYS right.

Funny cause her shitty book is YA. AKA a book for teenage girls; not for adults.

wow so prestigious Lindsay

That's fair. I'm not interested in his pop song reviews, not because of Todd but more Pop Songs today just seem so boring for the most part.
His pop song reviews have been almost uniformly terrible for years. He, like a complete pleb, almost exclusively focuses on just nitpicking the lyrics which gets tedious when the video goes on for fifteen minutes. Fifteen minutes to analyse the lyrics to a mass-produced three minute pop song made by soulless, professional songwriters which is then somehow passed off as an example of an "auteur" pop star expressing herself as though she's Bob Dylan or something, I mean come on. It's even worse now than it was in the past because in the neverending Current Year everything is political so he usually just makes hot take videos about the latest "controversial" song like WAP or Seven Rings and even when he doesn't he has to inject his faggotry into it. His OHW and Trainwreckord videos, on the other hand, have far more material he can actually cover which is why they're far better. Because instead of making a video essay about how a here-today-gone-tomorrow flash in the pan pop song written by three forty year old white men is totally a sincere expression of the singer's feminine sexuality or a tribute to her Caribbean slavery past or whatever he's actually diving into actually interesting and concrete history about music that a lot of people overlook.

Lindsay isn't dumb. She knows how the average person perceives "Youtuber" even if they aren't aware of how much bank she actually makes. I'd happily accept the money too, but you just know how much she thinks she's above Youtube and that it's her destiny to be the only famous person from her podunk town. She probably really hates her fans and resents them for worshipping Youtubers. I'm sure she is also self-aware how lame her fucking Youtube entourage is and doesn't respect any of them, but doesn't really have any other options.

Never gonna rub shoulders with the big wigs or actually important people, Linds. Take a drink.

Just a reminder: the New York Times Best Sellers list is not a list of books which sell well, despite claims to the contrary by the New York Times.

No need to tell me... there is a reason I have so much inside knowledge of publishing and the spec fiction community. Only thing NYT Bestseller is good for is branding and marketing.

There are better ways to track sales numbers - BookScan is decent - but in so many places there is so much inflation of numbers and putting your thumb on the scale. Goodreads is especially infamous.

Again, that a woman who bought herself a couple of Hugo nods couldn't manage multiple weeks on the Bestsellers lists speaks volumes to how shallow her ability to turn YouTube and Patreon numbers into real influence.

As I've said about the Oscars, it would help if the Best Sellers list had books people actually read.

In the Oscars' defense, they are not called the "Academy of Motion Pictures Rewards for Most Popular Pictures."

Nobody would be complaining if the New York Times printed the "New York Times List of Noteworthy Books." Calling their list a "Bestseller" list is obviously dishonest.

Honestly, Todd, and al the reviewers of every stripe, really have to deal with making interesting shit since it seems like his best shit isn't something that'll sync with the algorithm.

I"ve met Lindsay three times in various settings. I don't get the impression that she is a cruel person; she was as nice as can be expected from somebody who loves the limelight but hates the work that goes into it.
Reminder that the Times re-jiggered the whole way the list works to prevent Harry Potter from dominating it for years.
JK's reign of terror is over. Mine has only begun.

PSA Sitch and Adam Friended are going over Lindsay's epic "mask off" video on their show today:

I thought it was just a video analysis so I click on it and it's a livestream. So okay, "How long could this possibly be?" I wonder and decide to check it out later when the entire thing is done. And I check the channel and these niggers have videos ranging from 6-10 hours.

No one's got time for this shit.

That's why I don't get the popularity of livestreams. Why would I watch some faggot rambling about for hours instead of a concise edited video that won't waste my time as much? Just because it's "live"?

How many streams are there that just copy EFAP? I'm interested in a response to this Lindsay Ellis video but not one that will last 10 hours with the hosts getting distracted by digressions and superchats.

At least there's only two people to keep track of here, and you can actually see one of them, so it's easy to know who's talking

EFAP is just a big free for all crapshoot of people I don't know,

That guy Adam Friended is like Mersh with less charisma.
