Okay, people keep bringing up the Ace of Spades tattoo and 'haha blacked', but I thought that couldn't have been the reason she got it. The reason she got it was that it was available as flash on an artist's wall. BUT there is a reason it was on the artist's wall in the first place!
The Ace of Spades is sometimes regarded as a good luck symbol, as it is typically the highest value card in most card/casino games. The symbol is usually found in a gambling/luck themed tattoo, along with other card suits, casino chips, or dice.
But her tattoo has a skull and crossbones. Turns out there is a superstition surrounding the Ace of Spades and it is also known as 'the Death Card'. It was used by the US military in WW2 and (more prominently) the Vietnam War. Sometimes, the symbol was painted on planes, tanks, or helmets. Other times, an Ace of Spades from a regular deck of playing cards was left on the bodies of Vietnamese soldiers, as a 'calling card' of sorts. American card manufacturers printed and sent entire decks of Ace of Spades cards (sometimes with skull and crossbones and death imagery) to their troops, as it was a popular practice amongst several divisions of the US military.

I agree a .50 carat marquise cut is a bit small for an engagement ring. The more popular cuts are brilliant and princess. The princess cut is generally more expensive though. It's more in vogue to have a nice 1 carat center stone and having a halo of smaller stones or having the smaller stones criss-cross on the band, usually equaling up to 1.25 to 1.50 total carat weight. It's also popular to go with white gold or platinum instead of 18-22 karat gold. I chalk it up to idubbz being retarded when it comes to knowing jewelry.
