I have seen 20-something gay men, of the nelly variety, refer to themselves as a ‘gay boy’, but never in a totally serious manner. And of course there’s other situations where it’s culturally normal to refer to men as ‘boys’: the boys in blue, our boys overseas, Saturdays are for the boys.I'll never get their obsession with saying "boy" instead of using "man" for grown adults.
But it’s ultimately because being trans is about a refusal to perform the adult role of either gender. Note that I am not saying an adult woman should be obligated to perform femininity/be straight/be a mother/whatever, but she should be expected to handle her own affairs, have a job and not e-beg, deal with mental illness in a sensible manner, and so on, all things FTMs struggle with. This is where their minor autism comes out.
