Phil is desperate to have a massive payday. That's it. He has not processed this situation, he is not thinking long term - he sees, just as he has every month before this, a chance to pull as much cash as he can before people know he gets paid. He may understand that this is his last chance to use the 15th as a benchmark for begging, so he is trying to capitalize on it. He is choosing to take extra time to do a marathon, when he is specifically refusing to take a comparable amount of extra time to just set up BTTV, something his fans are asking for. Phil is not interested in his community or future tips goals, he wants a pile of cash ASAP. This literally only serves him.
Keep in mind, Phil is not actually at risk of
any deprivation yet. What we're seeing is a desperation to maintain his wild spending, and a desperation to cash in as quick as he can.
That may eventually come, and if this is any indicator, he is going to be losing his shit.

I disagree with you on this one - he is just doing what he always does, and that is holding a marine biology convention just so all the whale enthusiasts will turn up at once and compete for the podium. These events are so that he doesn't have to worry about whale calls or roaming whale passing by - he is chumming the waters for them and them alone. His viewers didn't ask for this; in fact, he is avoiding doing the things that they are asking for.
