Someone of the medical profession lumping somatic and functional disorders together with malingerers and munchies does not invoke a lot of trust in the quality of care in the NHS. I mean, what is someone with psychogenic seizures or pseudo-asthma/chronic hyperventilation or the Da-Costa syndrome (functional heart-disease) supposed to do? Not go to the hospital during an attack because Dr. Anton Gilbert thinks he is too good to treat them?

There is a huge difference between somatic / functional disorders (that includes Hypochondriasis) and malingerers/munchies. The difference is that one group has actual, sometimes even debilitating symptoms created by the stress-response of their nervous system and the other one fakes them for attention. Group one goes to the hospital because they are afraid (usually for their life), group two wants attention.

A doctor should know this, shouldn't he?

Edit: Actually Hypochondriasis is now part of the OCD spectrum but it still produces somatic symptoms.
The general attitude is because its a public service, you shouldn't be bothering the hospital unless you are really sick or badly injured. If it can be treated by out of hours or GP then it should be. Also you dont get much in the way of complex testing unless you push for it. I have a chronic problem with my skin which causes dry eye, and has led to scarring on my cornea which could blind me, still the NHS acted like I was wasting their time for ages.

There is a non emergency NHS line which can be called and they will advise if your symptoms are something more serious in need of immediate attention/a trip to A&E. They usually look for a reason not to send you to hospital, unless its just that serious they have to.

Going to the ER when you feel you are having a medical emergency is what the ER is for. If the doctors need an ECG and blood test to determine whether I am having a heart-attack or an anxiety attack then how should I know if what I am experiencing is life-threatening or not? This is why Munchies have it so easy, because doctors do not always know whether it is serious or not without doing necessary tests.

Common somatic complains like chest pain, tachycardia, shortness of breath, dizziness, hyperventilation, nausea, headache (and even seizures) could just be anxiety/somatic OR they could be acute heart-failure, fulminant myocarditis, malignant arrhythmia, hypertensive crisis, pneumothorax, a lung emboly, acute lung injury, status asthmaticus, (newly onset) epilepsy, sepsis, poisoning, thyroid storm, encephalitis or stroke. All potentially deadly conditions. Most people with anxiety can distinguish most of the time, but not always. 9 times out of 10 it might just be anxiety, but this one time it might be the actual thing because the symptoms are just so bad or because they are new symptoms.

I think people who do not have (health) anxiety or a somatic disorder have trouble understanding that yes, the symptoms can be that bad. If laymen could easily distinguish these symptoms from an acute health crisis then no one with a panic attack or anxiety would ever end up in the ER.

AgonyAutie is back making a fool of herself online, suicide baiting because she is trying to say she should have copyright for anything relating to autistic culture and stimming. She is even claiming that academics and doctors are plagiarising her for it! Claiming copying right for the disability they are claiming has to be a new one right? Link

I know a munchie IRL that deserves to be raked over the coals here for literally decades of hurting people I love.

Unfortunately, posting their deets here isn't apparent on social media without knowledge that would PL innocent third parties and myself.

Plus, this Munchie's years of feigning illness culmanated in getting colon cancer for real. You wanted attention for a terminal illness, bitch? Ass cancer serves you right.

if you can't post deets, gtfo.

I don't begrudge people for coming in with somatic symptoms, especially because heart attacks (especially in women) sometimes present with atypical symptoms, so it's important to catch every one that you can.

And, realistically, nobody in medicine really cares about that either. What's aggravating is that there are certainly people who use the emergency department as their primary care physician. That's not what it's for, and if you're trying to do that you're going to receive substandard care. You're going to be waiting for a long time and only allowed to talk about your chief complaint. People still do it though.

Sometimes you don't have a choice. Most PCPs won't help you on the weekends, at least where I am. Let's say you wake up in the middle of the night on Saturday with ear pain. It's probably a run-of-the-mill ear infection, so you call your PCP and leave a message with their answering service. IF they call you back, they usually say come see me Monday and if you can't wait, go to the ER. (Urgent care centers are closed on Sunday because it's the bible belt.) They definitely won't call in meds without seeing you. You try to deal with the pain, but if it becomes unbearable you go to the ER knowing that it's really not what ERs are for. You just don't have another option.

Shamelessly stealing this girl from the Reddits and uploading some of her videos here to make sure it’s preserved
Meet Emilee Wright from Pocatello, Idaho.
Official diagnosis is only fibro and BPD, but she thinks that she has a CV-EDS because of heart palpitations.
Her mother is trying to get her to stop obsessing about her health, so she films herself crying with her mother in the background as evidence of medical gaslighting. Basically she has the most punchable face I have seen in all munchies in a while.

I almost wish that these scum who feign major illnesses and disorders would actually get them just so that they can understand what horrible little wretches they are for drawing attention away from those who really do have these problems. Let them suffer for real - especially when they've been crying wolf for so long that nobody answers the call for help when they really do need it. But all things considered, it would probably just make them attention whore twice as hard, and make the people who still fall for their bullshit fall even harder. At the very least, if there is a Hell, I pray that there is a place for them there.

Lol her mom is so straight with her that she's addicted to weed and a hypochondriac. I liked when she says she should get a tugboat because she watched a documentary with an overweight woman who "most not all" of her issues were caused by being overweight and SHE gets a maid, free housing and a disability tugboat. She is basically skeptical that this girl is really sick bc she's fat yet she expects people to just accept her word that she has a "rare genetic connective tissue disorder". WHY DO THESE FATTIES GET A TUGBOAT AND NOT MEEEEEE!!!!

Like normally I'd be cool with people pointing out fatties cause their own health problems or at least don't help them. But it's insanely hypocritical here. Why constantly complain you can't get on social assistance for fibro and then have no leg to stand claiming a possibly made-up condition yourself? If you're going to try to get disability gibs for such a controversial disease that's very existence is debated, maybe don't complain about a fatty getting assistance, who you admit yourself has real problems.
Yes it could possibly (likely) be true "most of her problems are caused by being fat" but people could extremely easily just say your fibro is somatic and a result of deconditioning. You know she would see that as ableist bigotry and have a whole breakdown about it! Munchie bitches freak out if you question their shaky claims and evidence but constantly seek to tear other Munchies down and criticize them for being fake in a million ways that they would be enraged to have used against them.
Oh my fucking God. I seriously hope she ends up like Porsche girl and doesn't take out some innocent driver with her. I want to hear her body crunch against high speed concrete so bad...
