The general consensus is that, he could have been less of a lolcow for being such a bad artist, if he just didn't have the worst personality, the worst takes, the worst interactions with people.
I mean, for a former Deviantart user, his ugly art was a dime a dozen, but him being a little shit bag to anyone who even gave him a little non-asskissing static? Dobson is basically a meme even with a lot of normal people.

He used to have genuine fans who would get him to the front page of deviant art every time he posted, so it wasn't the artwork.

I think the main reason people initially got frustrated with Dobson is because his artwork isn't so bad that it's laughable to the average person, but to people who know art they see a lot of rookie mistakes that he's way too experienced to be doing. This makes his (former) success unearned and frustrates people who understand anatomy and such.
The next level to Dobson is that he actively regresses in his art which is a natural consequence of his personality flaw where he'll think everyone is out to get him and instantly go on the hardcore defensive at the first sign of criticism, and indeed sometimes when people weren't even criticizing him to begin with.
He always claims that he's like this because of those dang dirty trolls which honestly would be understandable at this point if not for the fact that Dobson has been a public figure on the internet for well over 10 years and we have evidence readily available both from his own stories and from other people telling own accounts of their brushes with him that he's always been like this. He likely acts this way because back in school, it probably worked. He'd be an asshole to people around him and claim it's because they bullied him first, then when people are unpleasant to him back he'd go "See?! I told you!", but the more often you do it and the larger a group you keep doing it to, the less effective it becomes.
Dobson is very much in a case of arrested development. His art regression, his responses to criticism, his interactions with people and indeed even his bottom tier political and societal takes all come from him employing the same strategies he did when he was 10 because it worked then so why shouldn't it now? Couple this hopelessly naïve worldview with his extreme laziness and you have a gargantuan lolcow who pumps out multiple 1000+ page threads across several forums. He's incorrigible.

Honestly, this is one of the reasons why I keep that tumblr blog up, as it’s a good way to prove to people he’s like this. Having all the evidence in one place and easy to search helps a lot

Also doesn't help that he attempts to validate himself via his work, so any criticism against his shoddy work is perceved also a personal attack against himself.

He went dark almost a year ago. Whether he has a job or not, we don't know, but given his infamy online, we'd have heard stories from co-workers by now.
Most likely, he's munching off his parents (maybe with a thin veneer of being a data entry slave for his dad's company) and has abondoned all known social media accounts and is using a new one that -for once- he was smart enough not to make blatantly obvious.

I think this is the case and he also lurks in here from time to time, he was found in Youtube a few months after he went dark, and almost as soon as the screenshots were posted here he deleted everything. so he is definitely out there with an alt account, but without his artwork he is just one more soy-filled contrarian sperging on social media

Honestly, giving up attempting to make art is the best thing in the world for Dobson. He hated making art and his skills just kept degenerating all the time. Now if only he'd give up the Internet completely, he'd probably feel better about himself and life in general. I'm not saying it would cure him of his assholic attitude, but the Internet is seriously the worst thing for some people and Dobson is one of them.

As long as he's just posting inane crap directly at a few people who from time to time send him asspats, there's no real point. Even if Dobson was found now, unless he's making art, there's nothing to be gained from finding him, really. Everything he does now is on such a small scale in such a small circle of chucklefucks, it simply doesn't matter and I doubt it's really worth keeping an eye on, let alone wasting time to find him.
If he doesn't make an ass of himself in a really public manner, it's simply not lolcow-content.

I feel like if he had an alt by now we would have found it. He has a recognizable posting style. Plus he is attention seeking with his social media accounts. I don't think he would abandon his main social media page just to go spergout where no one else can find him.
It has been a year now since he left. I honestly miss him in a weird way. 2020 claimed one of the easiest cows to laugh at.

Nah, he's totally out there using an alt. There's just no way he wouldn't be, given the election, BLM, George Floyd, the riots, and all of that. So much virtue to signal, after all!
