And he's still in the woke mindset that the path of critique is find a specific person and try to destroy their reputation by dismantling their moral character. Probably not. I played We Eat Blood and All our Friends are Dead and that is in there. This will come up later because Hill and Co. claimed that the Avery Ailes character was actually a hit piece on the creator of Monster Hearts. I was lurking around RPG.net at the time when this all went down.

Head Swede’s idea for this edition was: New New New. They loved the old Masquerade but wanted to completely modernize it, make it work for the new century: new team, new ideas—push everything as far as possible, the sky’s the limit on big ideas and they’re LARPers and so they’d leave the tabletop details to us.

Notes for next time: keep the LARPers and theater kids in their little corner where they can play dress-up and mean girl each other. Leave the metaplot/mechanics to the grogs.

Kenneth Hite had lots of ideas about tabletop game design and 100% up-front admitted he had no idea about visuals, Art Director was a woman who’d done a lot of impressive high-fashion shoots and music videos with fancy people and 100% admitted she had no idea about tabletop game design, and I was the guy who translated between them.

Art Director would say something like “Has there ever been a wedding in Vampire? I think that would be a great spread” (Because the art director is an art director).

I literally can't with these people.

And Ken Hite would go “And that’s when the NSA finds them!” (Ken is always looking for ways to kill vampires).

I like that Zak is laying Inquisition 2: Spook Boogaloo at Hite's feet without directly saying it. Nice touch.

Zak still doesn’t understand that the call is coming from inside the house. He’s obnoxiously woke and still follows the party line because he’s a true believer but he hasn’t learned that there is no forgiveness and that the moment someone runs to Twitter with an allegation, that might as well be a conviction in the minds of his peers. He’s against this because he was an early trial run for cancel culture on the RPG industry, in the years before we even called it that. I have no doubt that if Hill and his ilk hadn’t spent years trying to rip him down, he’d be jumping on those self same hate mobs that he now decries. The fact that he can’t see that it’s not a problem with the drapes but with the whole rotten edifice is because, well, he’s a lefty; his view of himself as a moral person is entirely intertwined with his politics.

That being said, he’s in a better position to pull back the curtain and he has the means to survive it. RPGs are his great love but they’ve always been the sidest of side hustles for him.
