Pretty interesting that
@Negi Springfield posted his video to such a positive response in the thread, despite it not really having any substantial points beyond “big channel bad” so I checked his other video on the topic, which in turn is
“These YouTube channels are just reading content instead of creating” as if that’s what’s wrong with the creators. The points he make are like accusing a theatre of being bad because they don’t produce their own plays, ignoring that a lot of quality is HOW things are done.
I don’t want to come across as defending low quality content but just saying “relying on cliches” Is barely a criticism. No commentary on what the two channels cliches are, such as spooky voice and royalty free music track. Cliches are present in pretty much everything and you sound like a tvtropes user if you attribute the wrongdoings to solely cliches or think that cliches are inherently bad.
The issue isn’t “stealing” content. Reading a post on /x/ out loud isn’t stealing as that post is easily readable by anyone. In fact, the editing of a video where you read an /x/ post out loud has some value in that it saves the end user time of browsing through millions of larping, lame arg, general chatter and the ever present schizoposting on /x/.
Reading online investigations out verbatim is uncreative yes, incredibly so, but if someone can present the information in a transformative and interesting way then it isn’t stealing.
The issue is more of the incestuous nature of these channels covering the same topics that have already been discussed on YouTube, such as for example Catastrophe Crow. An interesting video when behind a mind covered it, less so when Game Theory and Night Mind cover it over half a year later. This isn’t an issue of “stealing” the catastrophe crow content from the original investigations by online users, as inside a mind gives a rundown of the topic that’s serviceable and leaves enough curiosity for the viewer to read the document themselves.
The issue in this example is that of Game Theory and Night Mind being too late to the punch for these topics. They can’t provide new information on the subject because the information has already been out there for months. It’s a point of execution, not that none of these channels invented catastrophe crow in the first place. Like, sorry that people on YouTube are getting big off /x/ culchyure but you have in turn been exactly like them by adding nothing to the conversation and just said “these channels bad because YouTube bad”.
Maybe move out the glass house mr “Japanese cult message me part 2”.
