Yeah, impersonating a Federal agent can get you in deep shit with the actual FBI, especially if you try to perform any legal action based on such bogus representation.

I didn't say that. I said that pursuing a case this doggedly as a small firm against incredible resistance from a major insurance company, especially after losing at the trial court level originally, was unusual. It required putting a lot on the line over a long period of time when victory was uncertain.

But, yes, falsely (and seriously) claiming to be an FBI agent is a federal felony (in fact, the relevant statute singles out the FBI and a couple other three-letter agencies for special protection).

Meh, in theory it's illegal to pretend to be an FBI officer, but no court is really going to care very much here. Seeing as how there's zero chance anyone will believe him, there's not much public harm done, plus he can always claim it was a farcical, facetious claim. Now if he puts on an FBI uniform and waves a badge and demands things from passersby, that's probably a bit different.
