No, Dan is pretty well known for not talking about sex/politics. The closest commentary he has had on sex is "some people like to do butt stuff"Someone remind me... was Dan Ryckert the moron who said "less sexy anime girls leads to less rape" in a smug blue checkmark fashion?
Something to the tune of... "If we have to deal with a little less boob to stop men raping, I'll take less boob."
That's pretty libertarian - the meme it has become- of him, though.Oddly enough, I don't watch Colin's videos for the same reason you won't watch Danny's old videos. As said in the OP, before he was cancelled, Colin's big claim to fame was the IGN Mass Effect 3 "consume product" video. It was only after he cancelled that he suddenly became pro-consumer.
That's the "we" part of "if we just ignored them" -- employers need to be conditioned to start ignoring the screeching howler monkeys making random complaints about their employees for things unrelated to their employment, and DA's need to start actively prosecuting people for filing false police reports.I don't know if you can though. It sounds good on paper, but if they're contacting your job, or filing false police reports against you, you can't just ignore that unless you want your life destroyed.
I was not subbed to his patreon or anything but I did follow Cloth Map as I like Drew and the main thing I gathered from people is that he just didn't produce enough content to make his patreon feel worth supporting. You can just look at the youtube page to see he didn't really have that many projects over the span of the 3 years. Like there was a 7 month gap between the end of his Cuba series and the start of his Mongolia series. Maybe there was way more stuff on his patreon but I think he mainly did Q&A and behind the scenes stuff on there.Corona was already mentioned but he was already going down before that.
Almost sounds like the journalists who mass spam articles talking about wanting to get stepped on by a 7’ ft. Amazonian villian from the recent Resident Evil game.Something to the tune of... "If we have to deal with a little less boob to stop men raping, I'll take less boob."
Dan was the guy that tried to identify that tune, that very, very well known hymn that everyone knows, that was played during the intro of that Hitman game...it was (Ave Maria) probably... Eva Angelina. The big titty pornstar. No, Dan is pretty well known for not talking about sex/politics. The closest commentary he has had on sex is "some people like to do butt stuff"
I've never watched a Giant Bomb anything in my life, but this right here sounds unbelievably based if you ask me.Dan was the guy that tried to identify that tune, that very, very well known hymn that everyone knows, that was played during the intro of that Hitman game...it was (Ave Maria) probably... So is Jeff sticking with GB? He should honestly walk away too, its not his baby anymore and is just a shambling corpse at his point. It slowly started circling the drain after Ryan died and the corporate takeover and its down to the last irrelevant dregs.
Him doing his own thing focusing on retro games and industry insights from back in the day would honestly be more interesting than whatever the hell GB has become. Though guess he is at a place in life where picking up a comfy paycheck is more of a priority.
They used to be great. Other stuff has aged badly, but I like to think a lot of it still holds up. It's hard to say because a lot of the old stuff is a slow burn that doesn't work as clips. eg. The ending of the Celebrity Poker video, or the way they review energy drinks. You can't really get a 30 second clip of Jeff saying "this tastes like bubblegum soda" and have it be funny or interesting.I've never watched a Giant Bomb anything in my life, but this right here sounds unbelievably based if you ask me.
GB used to be on the cutting edge. They were doing the Patreon business model before Patreon existed. They were doing Let's Plays before the format was popular. They used to do edited content, but moved away from that in favour of more casual content. I always missed their edited reviews, but I guess it was the right to call to make at the time.Look at all the slick and entertaining stuff people with a thousand subscribers put out on youtube, total scrubs teach themselves editing and script writing then run rings around GB. It's fun to hear Jeff reminisce sometimes, imagine if he had looked some things up, found relevant footage and thought about what he would say before recording a video?
This was brought up in the last GB podcast. They did edited reviews (like GameSpot did) early on to show people that they were capable of doing edited content if they wanted to, but their goal was long-form content like the endurance runs and UPF, which required live production staff. Edited/scripted content was mostly reserved for GOTY time, but each year got more and more involved and Jeff/Vinny felt conflicted about the amount of time/stress that it placed staff under, so they axed it. The impression I got from the podcast is that the history of GB is more complicated than they've let on, like Vinny mentioning that he still hasn't had a honeymoon with his wife and there being a lot of non-obvious tech hurdles brought on from doing everything remotely during COVID.They should have gone for more scripted content though, at least jot out some details and thoughts beforehand. Them sitting down to see if they can find something to talk about, while sounding tired, should have been largely saved for UPF and some other things. Why would they even pay video editors if they have nothing to edit? Look at all the slick and entertaining stuff people with a thousand subscribers put out on youtube, total scrubs teach themselves editing and script writing then run rings around GB.
So glad to see someone else say this. Relate to everything.I'm 30-something, I don't have the time or inclination for massive amounts of content. I have dozens of Steam games I've not played, a YouTube "watch later" list over 500 videos long. I'd rather have a high quality 3-8 hour game than a 300 hour game of filler content. I know other 30-somethings in a similar situation.
I get the feeling he can't leave if he wanted. I watched his Garage Talk video, and it was kind of sad. He was basically explaining that his wife is too sick from pregnancy to be around him, so he has to move everything in his office to his garage to put space between them. He has to eat in his garage, work in his garage, and basically live in it.So is Jeff sticking with GB? He should honestly walk away too, its not his baby anymore and is just a shambling corpse at his point. It slowly started circling the drain after Ryan died and the corporate takeover and its down to the last irrelevant dregs.

What the hell kind of pregnancy makes you sick that other people have to avoid you? She got one of them mold babies from Resident Evil?He was basically explaining that his wife is too sick from pregnancy to be around him
They are still doing the premium thing? Thats crazy. I'll admit I was a pay piggie for a couple of years for GB but that was when it just started and it was Jeff and Ryan doing something different, you felt like you were helping the underdog. Once they got bought out I thought whats the point, they are just another site owned by a corporation and getting a pay check so cancelled my subscription. Would be curious to see what the drop off in premium subs was at that point and where its at now. Please continue to support us by being a premium subscriber, watching our videos, and please buy merchandise in this time of need!''
Yeah, no thanks Giant Bomb. You are not entitled to my money or my attention and if you want to fire 75% of your staff with no explanation and still expect to appease your corporate bosses, you can go fuck yourselves.
Ditto. I love the Assassin's Creed series, but I don't have the time, energy, and patience that I once did to do all 5000 side quests like I used to.I'm 30-something, I don't have the time or inclination for massive amounts of content.
