Other religions like Islam, Buddhism, Wicca, and native religions are praised by these "atheists".
It's funny, I was doing research for a paper on Buddhism and reading through some Zen and Tibetan material. In the Tibetan (Mahamudra) material the question is asked: "Why should you undertake to hear the Dharma immediately?" The answer? You can die any time and if you don't decide now, as a human being to whom the Dharma may be transmitted, to renounce samsara, then you might not have another chance again to escape suffering. Shockingly close to the evangelical Christian argument that because the Rapture could be tomorrow, you have to convert and believe in Jesus.

In the Zen material (Hakuin), the point is made that practicing Buddhism properly heals you of your physical ailments and can assure long life, a sharp mind, etc. (And this isn't original to Zen, in earlier Chinese Buddhism this same emphasis is given) Again, shockingly close to Christian faith healing.

The point I took away is that Buddhism is literally exactly the same as any other religion, but because it's from the Orient it must be just a spiritual philosophy and not subject to any of the same issues as le evil magic sky fairy religion of the west. In reality, that's an extremely orientalist (a la Edward Said) view.

Someone made the point earlier in this thread that the willingness of branch covidians to subject themselves to insane self-harming policies is conceptually identical to the public displays of repentance during the Black Death (e.g. people whipping themselves in the street). When society is shaken by some natural force that they can not control, see, or avert, people publicly display their virtue in some sort of hope that it alleviates their suffering. It really underscores how branch covidianism is literally a religion to these retards—and it's not even an original one since it's following the same pathways that have existed since the dawn of humanity.

I'm not sure it's that cut-and-dry, considering my own red state church didn't get back to worshiping in person for almost a full year, and even now still requires face masks and social distancing during worship. Had some hope today though, as our pastor made his feelings clear during our morning Bible study: he's done with this shit, he's ready to do away with these last few restrictions, and even if variants become a problem, he has no desire to bring them back. Unfortunately it's up to the council to make the decision, and he doesn't actually have a vote there, but several members of the council were at the study to hear him. I think I'll try to attend this month's meeting for the hell of it; I may not have a vote, but I certainly have a say.

That said, I've often found myself thinking about the trends of our increasingly irreligious society. I'm not about to go out proselytizing, but humans have more or less evolved with a need for a belief in a higher power. It's woven into every civilization throughout history, spawning countless religions over the millennia. But when people turn their backs on organized religion, that desire doesn't go away, and it inevitably gets replaced with something else. Whether it's the I Fucking Love Science crowd that fawns over Black Science Man and the rat fuck Fauci, or those that have turned political parties into their religion of choice, or even those that treat the media they consoom as their personal bible, they all end up worshiping something. And don't get me started on self-worship, egged on by the social media giants.

This is kind of drifting off topic, but when you consider studies that show that religious people tend to be happier and healthier overall, it wouldn't surprise me that churchgoers are less affected by coof hysteria. And it may be anecdotal, but not a single member of my church has died of the coof, so take that as you will.
Anecdote since you mentioned church:

Went to a wedding recently. Won't be too specific, but it wasn't in a red state. One of the "requirements" for the ceremony in the church was "wear a mask, distance" all that bullshit. Got there on time and yeah there were masks, and yeah every other pew section was taped (stretchy string'd) off. As usual I just held my bandito bandana an inch from my face like someone farted and I looked around. There were quite a few people without masks both while entering and finding a seat then sitting and waiting. Others had theirs on. But as time went on, more and more people did the "shit on this" move and just took em' off quietly. You could just feel people thinking "Huh that one's not wearing a mask. Huh, nobody's giving two shits about it. Welp, guess I'll take this fuckin' thing off." By the time the wedding started, pretty much nobody had one on; not even the Priest. Not one complaint from anyone, either. Same with the "keep your distance" bullshit.

Same deal at the reception. It was supposed to be an outdoor reception but inclement weather forced things indoors, which was okay since the interior was pretty nice. Not really spacious enough for a big ass reception dinner/dance, but still fun. Things were, for all intents and purposes, back to normal. Well except the buffet since they didn't want people breathing on the food, but I stayed away from it since I didn't care for the offerings. Glean from this story what you will.

local chinese take out didn't have any mask signs up, staff wasn't masked (but had some crazy andromeda strain airlock shit between them and the lobby)
customers split 25/75 no mask/mask

Welp yesterday went to a Waffle House, full house and a line of about 3 parties ahead of us, and not a single mask was observed except for the employees, who had them pulled down. lol. Very melting pot clientele of course, so people of all races and ages and a variety of apparent socioeconomic classes, all united in following official Florida guidance to live like normal.

No. Not same as Christian healing. One believes in everything is controlled by one being and faith in said being will solve your problems. The other believes everything is a result of cause and effect. It tries to gain salvation by getting the person to be completely in the moment as a means to stop creating more of existence for the individual to cease suffering.

Reports are out that 200,000+ people are newly unemployed last month due to harsher restrictions in Canada. And that's not even considering that a large number of already unemployed have simply stopped looking for work. But the media keeps on pushing unconstitutional restrictions to control the spread of a virus that kills like 3 people a week under 50 in the country. Media won't shut up about case counts even though almost all new cases are in young people who virtually never die. After all, every new round of tougher restrictions only makes the wealthy even wealthier by destroying even more small business and putting even more people out of work...

TBF wasn't there some cringey boomer pastor who at first claimed COVID was a curse/punishment for homosex in the beginning then tried to walk it back and act like he knew COVID was a nothingburger all along?

In other news, the amount of doomers that will call you "dumb" or "retarded" if you tell them you caught COVID seems to be increasing - not just on normie social media but even here on KF.
IIRC >25% of the US population has caught COVID, even people who wore the talisman and went through the motions (gee, like a virus doesn't give a fuck how many masks you wore).

It's definitely something I've noticed here too after our state's restrictions were removed (now there's no mandates or restrictions on anything except schools, and those aren't being reinstated next school year). I expected to see everyone ditch the masks as soon as the mandates expired a couple months ago, but I still saw pretty much everyone masking up no matter where I went. Inertia is a hard thing for a lot of people to overcome, apparently, set in their ways of putting on the face totem everywhere for almost a year at that point. Nobody wanted to be the first to drop the charade and stand out in the crowd, I guess for fear of what others would think of them. Only once they saw others getting rid of them would they feel comfortable doing likewise.

I was all too eager to get rid of them, so I stopped wearing mine immediately whenever I went out. If it would convince at least one other person that they didn't need to wear one anymore, then that was fine by me. And a couple months later, I'm noticing a lot less masks now. Employees of chain stores are likely still going to be forced to wear them due to corporate policies beyond their control, but fewer customers are bothering. Not once have I been asked by an employee to put a mask on.

I have made a single exception since then, and that's when I've gone to donate blood. In that case, I feel that my donation is more important than getting into a scuffle with the nurses there, so I can put up with it for an hour. And I'm still positive for coof antibodies apparently, so hopefully those can be used for therapeutic purposes.

Covid vaccines are less effective against the variant of the virus identified in India, research has shown.

But they would still prevent very seriously illness, University of Cambridge microbiologist Prof Ravindra Gupta said.

He told BBC World News: "The virus can potentially infect people who have already been vaccinated, albeit with reduced severity - so they will be protected from the severe effect but could still be infected, feel ill and pass it on to others."

As was known from the beginning these vaccines are non-sterilizing. What we're now seeing is the virus mutating to avoid the spike protein antibodies, which was to be expected. We find ourselves in a situation where hundreds of millions of people have received drug therapies that will provide them protection from severe illness but will do nothing to stop them from catching and spreading the virus. This will potentially lead to the virus becoming both more infectious and more deadly, something that would be impossible without the vaccines.

It's being reported that the Indian variant has mutated to avoid the Pfizer vaccine. This strain is already in the US and Europe and will become predominant in the next few weeks and months. The good news is that there are enough people in the US who have natural immunity that a massive spike in cases is unlikely at least in the medium term. The bad news is that the folks who have received the vaccine will shortly be coming down with the coof and the pressure to go back into lockdown will be back on.

A very interesting story. Believe this is just the tip of the iceberg. Public school districts can get money from the state for each student-day in school, apparently either online or resident. When students are deserting schools in the fashion described, the resulting loss of state aid dollars can have a serious impact on the school district's budgeting. This year can see help from Washington, but should students keep deserting schools, the school districts may have some real financial trouble.

Got an email from TRICARE (military health insurance) saying the Johnson and Johnson vaccine was now okay to use, least until they change their minds again. STILL not getting any vaccine.

Department of Defense Resumes Use of J&J/Janssen

COVID-19 Vaccine

On April 23, 2021, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommended that use of Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen COVID-19 vaccine (also known as the J&J vaccine) resume in the U.S. This update comes after a temporary pause went into effect due to health and safety concerns.(I doubt it. - JS)

In response and following the publication of CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, the Department of Defense (DoD) resumed its use of the J&J vaccine on Wednesday, April 28, 2021.

Why was there a temporary pause?

There is a risk of a rare adverse event called thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome (TTS) in people after receiving the J&J vaccine. TTS is a serious condition that involves blood clots with low platelets.

This adverse event is rare and happened in about 7 per 1 million vaccinated women between 18 and 49 years old. For women 50 years and older and men of all ages, this adverse event is even more rare.

For three weeks after receiving the vaccine, you should be on the lookout for possible symptoms of a blood clot with low platelets. These include:

  • Severe or persistent headaches or blurred vision
  • Shortness of breath
  • Chest pain
  • Leg swelling
  • Persistent abdominal pain
  • Easy bruising or tiny blood spots under the skin beyond the injection site
You should seek medical care right away if you develop one or more of these symptoms.

There are other COVID-19 vaccine options available for those who want an alternative to the J&J vaccine. The CDC and FDA will continue to monitor the safety of all COVID-19 vaccines.

Why did the pause end?

After a review of all available safety data at this time, the CDC and FDA recommended use of the J&J vaccine resume in the U.S. The available data show that the vaccine’s known and potential benefits outweigh its known and potential risks in individuals 18 years of age and older.

However, women younger than 50 years old, especially, should be aware of the rare but increased risk of this adverse event and that there are other COVID-19 vaccine options available. This risk hasn’t been linked to the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna COVID-19 vaccines.

What does this mean for you?

You should get vaccinated. (I'm not. 🖕 - JS) As of April 19, all eligible and authorized TRICARE beneficiaries and DoD individuals can make a COVID-19 vaccine appointment at any military hospital, clinic, or DoD vaccination site. You can also get the COVID-19 vaccine through:

If you have concerns about receiving the J&J vaccine, talk to your health care provider or the immunization expert at a DoD vaccination site. DoD vaccination sites are also offering an alternate FDA-EUA approved COVID-19 vaccine if you would prefer to receive Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna. The CDC and FDA will continue to monitor the safety of all COVID-19 vaccines.

Remember, the J&J vaccine requires just one dose. The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine requires two doses given 21 days apart. The Moderna vaccine requires two doses given 28 days apart.

Keep doing your part!

Remember, you play a key role in slowing the spread of the virus. Get the vaccine and encourage your family and friends to do the same. Once you’re fully vaccinated for COVID-19, follow CDC guidance on what you can start to do.(Fuck what the CDC says. No credibility any more. - JS)

Learn more by talking with your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist, or visit the CDC website.(Nah, think I'll come here instead. Eat me. - JS)
