Well, at least Sterling is interesting, because it ain't everyday you see a spiral like that.Despite being Jim Complains about Capitalism and Microtransactions Vid #327 this one is kinda interesting
- opens up with threatening to show his chest and promptly assures that it's only his toy chest that he wants to show, but that Pandora's box is now open
- defends himself against accusations being too repetitive. He argues he's only repetitive bc game discourse is repetitive/cyclic, bringing up game difficulty discourse as an example and chalks it up to game journalists hate. Because why would people dislike a car journalist who can't drive if not for blind hate
- admits he hasn't done anything original
- at 06:56 admits he hates video games and himself for making it his living
- whines about losing couple thousand subs every week (again) and says he'll celebrate below 900000 sub count milestone
All in all this has a doomerish undertones (like saying that none of it matters), plus he's way less "tee-hee I'm wAhMaN", so I'm assuming hormones (like any drugs over time) don't give him the high they used to
First, I'm a bit surprised that, for all the clever pants pre-emptive lampshade he does against his critics, he forgot one major point of this whole shpeel:
If the videogames discorse is so repetive, why don't YOU introduce a new topic for people to talk about.
Sterling ain't kotaku, and he is sitting pretty on a big patreon cushion, he doesn't need to chase the trendy topics if he doesn't want to, and there is plenty of things videogame related that can be talked about, You just don't have to talk endlessly about crunch, captalism, reviews or difficulty if you don't want to, but instead, Steling use these discussions as a excuse to stop trying "it ain't my fault that my show is boring you know".
But it isn't like Sterling just stoped trying, his show is downright schizophrenic, he jumps topics and points withou ,much reason or sense, and i get that is the nature of rants, but he has a whole week to gather his thoughts, that is all he does, and this last video, a good chunk of it was incoherent ramble.
Also, Sterling has been hitting hard of his own audience for a while now. Not long ago he stopped short of telling people who buys ubisoft games are the ones to blame for the harrassment that happens in that company, and he continues to drag down his listners over his blatant contempt of having to talk about videogames.
Dressing down an audience can be used for a interesting act, but it needs to be just that, a act, and be performed by someone with a lot of charisma to do it. If it is genuine and comes from malice, then it is just bullying, and no one wants to be around this shit.
Cry all you want about losing subscribes since you started wearing a wig Sterling, as if that is the real issue on why people are leaving you fat ass because of that.
Trooning out is the least of Sterling's problem right now. I don't think he is going to bleed any paypigs anytime soon, but he is heading for a place that the is no return and in the end it will reach Spoonysville, where no one wants to be.
