Story I'm seeing from some Israelis is the Palestinians were refusing to pay rent so were getting evicted, so when the police came by the Palestinians ran into a mosque resulting in the shit show occurring there since the Muslims there didn't want to turn anyone over to the police. Plus you have that nationalist holiday of Jerusalem Day celebrating winning the six day war as a backdrop to the Palestinians rioting and firing off rockets, which makes for some awesome optics of cheering Israelis as Palestinians cry about being victims for refusing to pay rent. Which sounds more believable than the Palestinian story that appears to be that Israelis just up and decided to fuck with them to steal their land.

Well this time around it seemed to start over a rent dispute which all the Muslims in the area took as a good enough reason to start shit with the police and then fire rockets off so that the IDF had an excuse to bust heads. And they apparently don't have that much power in the media given people keep referring to it as Sheikh Jarrah rather than the Jewish name for the area (if I'm interpreting this shit right) which is "temple mount". The international framing of the story is purely that the Israelis fucked up and were targeting these poor Palestinians for wanting rent.

One of the fucky aspects is that the Palestinians suggested they'd pay the rent to the courts, just not to the landowners since it'd mean admitting the Jews own the land. And the Palestinians are claiming any evidence that the Jews own the land is based on forged documents so they don't need to pay nothing.

Layer Abu Hussein explained that the compromise the courts wanted failed because of the gap between both sides. Palestinians said that they are willing to avoid eviction on grounds of not paying the rent by depositing the rent to a fund at the courts, while the Jewish settler organization Lahav Shomron is willing to allow the Palestinians to stay at their homes on condition that they pay rent to them. But if this happens the settlers will be considered landowners.
