I saw a scientist who said the CDC has “institutionalized hypochondria.”
I like that

. As I believe I've mentioned in past discussion, people from other nations are surprised at how powerful the drug lobbies are in the US in that people here believe pills and drugs will always cure what ails them and that legitimate natural remedies are seldom considered. The CDC seems to be doing its part to perpetuate that misconception.
They never should’ve passed any “relief bills” at a federal level, the reason people are acting the way they are is because all the losers out there who couldn’t make 40k a year in a job were making 900 a week with no payroll taxes to sit on their ass and play video games all day.
Biden may say that people aren't staying home because they're earning more on unemployment than they would working, but empirical evidence suggests otherwise. More on that later.
I live in a place where muzzles are no longer required, but companies still have their own muzzle mandates. One notable exception: a privately-owned store with a sign "MASKS NOT REQUIRED". At least there are others who are sick and tired of this crazy bullshit.
For a number of reasons, I keep the required notices posted on my office's alcove door (reason #1 being to avoid a potential $7000 fine for noncompliance with state and local COVID requirements) but I really don't care if my established clients wear masks or not. When I ask the required screening questions, nearly all of them tell me they wouldn't be coming to see me at the office if they didn't feel well and I've known most of them long enough to trust them to be reasonable adults.
I wonder what kind of shit show will happen when unemployment for Covid ends for people. There's a big shortage of people not wanting jobs right now. Should I be running to the hills?
I wouldn't be surprised if the Democrats use their majorities in the US House and senate to continue to extend the Federal add-on indefinitely. It's bad enough that Tlaib, AOC, and that lady from Minnesota all believe
anyone on US soil should be getting $2000/month in COVID money followed by $1000/month for the next year once the pandemic is deemed over.
To more directly answer your question, I think we'll see a major shitstorm when Federal benefits end and states decide to start enforcing their work search requirements. People won't know how to act and would rather spend the time bouncing and squeaking about losing their COVID tugboats instead of using that same energy and effort to find a job or return to whatever job they had before COVID hit.
Calgary street preacher Artur Pawlowski arrested and charged after defying public health orders
If I recall, this is the guy that fled a communist or Nazi-controlled part of Europe. TFW Canada is treating him more oppressively than the true oppression he faced in his past.
Let's hope then other Republican governors will follow DeSantis' example. I doubt that SOB of Michigan Greta Gretchen will do the same.
Whitmer scares me, TBH. Although she's been resigned to not add new mandates for now and recently announced vaccine-based metrics for easing up the remaining restrictions, she's still the type to just abruptly change her mind and reverse course without rhyme, reason, or warning.
Why do they have this obsession with putting all this covid shit on kids?
Around here, the spike in COVID numbers this spring was blamed on the 16 and under crowd because: (1) they were ineligible for vaccines at the time and more susceptible to COVD and (2) winter sports, especially those played by the 13 and under group, were being used as a scapegoat. While it's true many kids hated wearing masks for winter sports and some refused to wear masks properly if they could get away with it, I personally think it was nothing more than needing someone to blame for the latest increase in numbers.
Anyone else seeing restaurants losing tons of people? Didn't start happening until the past month, but it seems like every food place in my county's understaffed to hell. It's weird that this didn't happen after the other stimulus checks, at least not in my area.
With many restaurant positions paying most workers minimum wage or just slightly more than that, they're having a heck of a time (re)hiring workers that can make much more than that staying home and collecting unemployment as long as the Federal government continues to pay $300/week in NEETbux. I did the math and someone in my state collecting maximum weekly unemployment and getting the $300 Federal amount on top of that earns approximately $16.50/hour to stay home and do absolutely nothing. Restaurants and many other businesses simply can't compete with the Federal Government actively undercutting their labor supply in that manner.
