The staff went out of their way to remind all of us on the ward that life is good and how tragic it would be to neck ourselves.

I couldn't even go home until I signed a (not really enforceable,lol) contract that said I would not neck myself and if I ever got the urge to do again that I would come back for an evaluation.

Granted my hospital was pretty swanky according to the chatter on the ward, but I highly doubt that even the worst hospital in my area would let someone out without getting them to sign a contract like that. There's far too much legal liability to do otherwise. My childhood BFF'S dad necked shortly after going on antidepressants - which is a known side effect and why you're supposed to be monitored for a while - or forever. I see my doc every three months. Anyway, my friend and her family was never told of this risk and there was no monitoring. They sued for malpractice and won. This was back in the mid-90s. I was hospitalized a few years ago for reference.

No way is this story true. He may have been hospitalized, but taking his meds away and telling him it's okay to neck? X to doubt.

It's likely to be a lie but I will say that some psych wards are pretty shit, despite what their intended purpose is. Even the better ones (at least in America) often don't consist of a nurturing environment in any way, because they're used to dealing with people who are confrontational and therefore treat everyone as potentially disobedient and combative. This is when it comes to under-18 places at least, it might be different in adult ones.

This is why everyone's currently mad that an Italian dude voiced Laverne Cox's character in the dub of some show. They're going hard over correcting it so that Laverne will have the voice of an actual, real woman. Why do they want a woman voice actor instead of a trans woman voice actor? How do they know the male voice actor they originally hired isn't a transwoman?

Because none of them can escape sounding like fucking men and deep down everyone knows it. Sad options - squeaky FTM Ellen Page frog voice or sounding like Hank Hill even though you spent an hour on your hair.

EDIT: Regardless of personal belief, I've always autistically thought about the whole God/humans thing like humans eventually creating sapient AI. Sometimes shit goes wrong in their programming (birth defect or mental illness). Imagine if one day humans create a fully sapient humanoid AI with what they perceive as perfection for their design and purpose all sorts of delicate intrinsic gears and cogs that mesh together perfectly, then the AI, deciding it knows better than you, decides it was created wrong and begins ripping and tearing out essential wires and gears willy-nilly with the self centered hubristic belief that it can become something else, then replaces its internal workings with windows 98.
That's troonism in an autistic nutshell.

There seems to be a major terf presence in this thread (side note, I've honestly never considered "terf" even slightly derogatory, since it's only ever been used by people I strongly dislike to refer to women who don't tolerate their shit), and I think it's led to sidestepping a lot of the culpability modern feminism has in all this, especially in online culture.

I just couldn't see why these people would look down on being a man, it couldn't be that we're living in an era where women have been so absolved of any responsibility and so much has been heaped on men that we've had numerous metoo events where adults have consensual sex but the dude still got flack basically just because she was mad he didn't talk to her afterwards. It's not like women can get away with publicly having sexual contact with minors while facing absolutely no legal consequences. Kiwifarms is big on freedom of speech (but you have to tolerate the consequence). Due to this, everyone has their say. Since a lot of mean things are being said about people not many people like, we get a sort of team identity, us vs them. Both of these factors mean more people are open to sharing personal opinions because it's the culture and perceived good company (and a lot of us like to start shit).

So both men and women are affected by this gender shenanigans. Cynical jaded men feel as if they're on the last rung of the privilege ladder and have become the world's whipping boy due to news stories and people talking about laws in addition to being awkward and not getting as much emotional help/monetary help/asspats as a woman would in a similar situation. When you're stuck in a depression pit, it'a hard to not pick someone to blame for an easy scapegoat/solution.

The blame for troons on one another is something that probably won't stop. For men, it can be women for the above reasons. For women, it can be the same except men & for different but similar reasons. The truth is, it isn't one movement's fault or most groups of men and women. There really are a bunch of cultural factors in addition to how our society views both genders that cause both sexes to troon out (aidens think the grass is greener too). LGBT needing a cause after gay rights, rise of the internet with weird communities and coom, people taking advantage of others, and so on. Basically, its not just feminism: it's cultural factors and the cultural expectations of men and women. We're all to blame and we can share it. Not all people, but as a culture we are to blame.
