I really fucking hate how everything has to devolve in to some shitty chain of stupid, unfunny comments.

I think the "Reddit is mostly bots" theory could be true. I saw a few comments that were so weird and made no sense but somehow got tons of upvotes that it made me like "wtf something isn't right here."

It's hard to explain. The first comment like that I saw in thread with a
picture of 2 girls that build a "desk" for their tablets out of cardboard boxes and there was one comment that could only have been made by someone...or better something that can only read text & not see what's going on in the picture. But it got so many fucking upvotes that it made me suspicious. I can't remember what it was, only that it was weird as hell.

I have actually been thinking this for a while. When I look at stuff like this I find it hard to believe that there's people actually using this site. Even 5 or 6 years ago it felt somewhat ok, there were still idiots but mostly it seemed civil but after Trump got in everything went to shit really quick.

While I used to believe this, these days I think we're just seeing the end result of continually lower common denominators of truly uninteresting people pooling into social media, as well as the addition of the purity spiral making others say less interesting things in fear of what would happen otherwise. That and sites like Reddit make it super easy to hugbox yourself especially with their user blocking system essentially letting a user completely wipe out anything they think they don't want to see, and on top of that powermods doing a lot of that for them. There are some bots, sure, there are accounts that purely repost content in order to get points to then sell off to marketers and then the cycle continues, but those are not most accounts. Though it's definitely becoming continually possible for fairly realistic users to possibly be emulated with learning algos like gpt-3 which are funded by incredibly wealthy companies like Google who are probably selling off the best of the tech to the highest bidder. A lot of botlike users could just be people being paid off to market things or political agendas as well, and are simply given a cookie cutter response sheet that makes it seem like they're fake.

Not to go full Stormfront, but the theory I’ve heard is that it is a myth perpetuated by those that wish to encourage race-mixing. Convince white women that black men are vastly superior to white men, and suddenly you see a lot more single mothers of mulatto babies.

Sometimes I get the most unnerving sense of deja vu when I read comments on a repost and I could swear I’m reading the exact comment chain from when I first saw what was being reposted.
