Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

Feels like the covid bullshit is on its last gasp before it goes away. I think Biden's handlers are trying to save face or are just grasping at straws with this last push. People holding out to get the vax aren't going to jump on it, and nobody is going to keep wearing masks except the most libtarded. It's over, thank god.
There is still the likelihood businesses will enforce mask wearing even if you are vaccinated or be pressured to have people provide identification that they have been vaccinated if they are not wearing a mask. Also they may update the "no shirt, no shoes, no service" policy to include "no mask, no vax".

I keep seeing arguments like -

"You have to be afraid!"
"I'm not."
"But...you have to be, but it's okay we're in it together, I can offer help."
"I'm still not afraid."
"We were told to be afraid, so you have to be afraid. Look at ME, I'm afraid."
"Yeah, I'm still not. Sorry."
"Bu bu bu but......well....you're mean! You're a big ol' meanie-pants! I'mma tell everyone you're BAD!"

And if this was the first time I've seen this type of behavior I would think Covid rotted their minds, but I grew up around some people that were in churches that were almost-cults and well. There's a reason history repeats itself.

Day late and a dollar short with that one.

The only way they're not going to loose at least the senate in the midterms is if they're able to pass their election control bill (and maybe DC statehood bill, but the election control bill would probably be enough).

They're almost all ready to burn every bridge down to accomplish that - nix the filibuster, pack the supreme court, etc.. etc.. and just flat out do not care/do not believe doing so would trigger a civil uprising or civil war.

If/when Manchin relents (lets be honest, he's going to be blackmailed) I expect that stuff to get rammed through as fast as the democrats possibly can. They need both of those things within ~9 months of the elections in order to have enough time to force states into compliance.
I believe that it's in our constitution that DC cannot obtain statehood so that'll be fun. Then again it's laughable to expect politicans to actually follow the constitution in this day and age (unless they're using it against their enemies or using it to wipe their own ass).

Meanwhile, my company decided that patrons don't have to wear masks anymore (I guess because of the CDC, but employees still do. Fuck these people). Though we'll still keep the signs and "strongly encourage" mask wearing.

What makes this cult scarier than the others is that it's being state mandated, and non-compliance will put you in prison.

And LOL at people that are actually BIG MAD at the CDC. That was the worst thing about this past year; the fear mongering worked. I expect some people to be wearing masks for the rest of their lives because (1) COVID will get them and (2) to prove that they aren't a science denying Republican.
You'd think the CDC giving the green light is all it would take, but here we are wit some people wanting to mask up forever because there's still a minuscule chance corona chan might kiss them. What would happen to these people if the news started fear mongering about asteroids?

The recent job+inflation reports really scared them.
I've heard of this, but do you happen to have a more detailed report?

I really wished I had saved the clip, but some scientist came out LAST MONTH and said that children should wear masks so they could get used to them "as they get older." So yes, some people expect us to wear masks FOREVER. If some helpful Kiwi has the clip, I would be grateful, but I might be getting to vague.

By the way, here is the jobs report:

TL;DR - When you pay people more in unemployment than they can get at a job, they are going to stay home.

Slight powerlevel, but nearly a decade ago, I was on unemployment because I got laid off. While on unemployment, I got a part time job which didn't pay as much. That was fine because I could still keep collecting the difference while I had the part-time job and I could even stretch out benefits for longer because in NY state at the time it was total amount of money (aka. you could get paid $100 for 100 weeks instead of $400 for 26 weeks). The problem is that when I quit my part time job because it was a terrible work environment, NY state cut off my unemployment entirely because that part time job now counted as my "last employer" and you couldn't collect unemployment at the time if you quit. Even back then, they were telling people (unfortunately I found this out later) NOT to take part-time jobs that pay less than unemployment for this very reason. So people aren't going to take a shitty job and not only lose their unemployment temporarily, but risk not getting it back at all if the job is shit.

Gotta love how all the Branch Covidians went from telling everyone to trust the CDC to telling everyone to not listen to the CDC.

Call me optimistic as fuck but I'm glad we are getting closer to no longer having to wear masks at every fucking place.

This would be great if it caught on.
Good way to use all the bullshit against them, take the masks off, and not even get the vax because you don't care.
I don't need to correlate it anything to shame them. I passed some dude walking his dogs with his mask down and he saw me (maskless) coming and pulled it up even though it was an 8ft side walk. I told him "you should mask up the dogs too, to be safe" and he yelled something about me being a selfish asshole. I just threw an "ok faggot" over my shoulder.

Feel free to say "and then everyone clapped" but I'm honestly as much of an angry asshole IRL as on the net as I slowly get more and more burned out living in this clown world

I am jealous of all you non Chinadian (Canadian) peeps that get to ditch the bullshit. Up here we follow the wisdom of Fidel Castro’s son Justin and the Worst drug dealer this side of the GTA; Doug Ford.
Which gets you about what you’d think it does.
Blessed be the Covidian fruit

I am not obligated to wear a mask to "protect others".
I am not obligated to get a medical treatment the long-term effects of which we will not know for years to "protect others".
This is all made up and these people are children.
I sperged out IRL on someone who suggested I had a responsibility to other people to get vaccinated. I don't get medical procedures for other people. Any suggestion that I should makes me don a top hat. Not my proudest moment, honestly, but being surrounded by branch covidians day in and day out really wears on the psyche. At least everyone who was there will know not to talk to me about vaccines in the future.

I was walking home from work yesterday, and I saw an Indian woman wearing a mask and I said to her "you know you don't have to wear those outside, right?" And she took it off, and looked happy about it. I honestly think people believe that they'll get arrested if they're caught outside their home without a mask.
This is in NY btw.

I believe it's going to go the other way as we've seen with Boris. "We tried to loosen restrictions but that was a mistake and now we need to compensate with mega restrictions."

Manchin is more secure than you might think. He's been floating the idea of simply not running again for a while, and can simply do so. So staying in power isn't important to him. He's served ten years and through that hasn't been taken out by the progressives despite them -hating- Blue Dogs. Additionally, the man lacks any sort of scandal to pull from.

Short of legal blackmail, they don't have any real options. And the problem with the senate and legal blackmail is that they all touch eachother. And the LAST thing they want is for him to resign and for a senate election to go on, since that would cost them their majority since he's from a very red area.

In short, anything they'd blackmail him with is neutralized by him wanting to leave already and being from a red area.

North Carolina is the latest state to (mostly) end their restrictions.
By GARY D. ROBERTSON, Associated Press
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper on Friday immediately ended the state's capacity limits on businesses and nearly all the remaining statewide mask-wearing mandates, returning the state to almost normal operations after 15 months marked by COVID-19 lockdowns and limits.

The Democratic governor of the nation's ninth-largest state announced the lifting of gathering limit requirements 2 1/2 weeks before June 1 — the date by which he had previously said he wanted to rid the state of social distancing requirements. Restrictions had been scaled back slowly in recent months.
Cooper said he was prompted to act by continued stable and improving statistical trends for the coronavirus, as well as Thursday's decision by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to ease mask-wearing guidance indoors for people who are fully vaccinated. The number of daily confirmed cases and COVID-19-related hospitalizations continue to trend downward in North Carolina.
“This is a big step forward in living our lives the way they were before the pandemic. That’s good,” Cooper said at a news conference. He warned that the virus remains in the state and urged all adults to get vaccinated.
Cooper’s new directives repeal the order that required people to wear masks indoors. Also lifted are limits to mass gatherings, which had been at 100 people indoors and 200 outdoors. Restaurants — which had been limited to 75% capacity — and bars, receptions spaces and sports arenas capped at 50% capacity indoors and outdoors can now revert to full seating.
A mask mandate still remains in place within public schools, health care facilities and on transportation like buses, trains and airports, according to Cooper’s office. Friday’s changes also don’t prevent private businesses and entities, as well as local governments, from still requiring masks or limiting capacity if they choose.
Still, the changes open the doors for many companies and government agencies to bring most of their employees back to in-person work.
People who aren’t vaccinated will still be urged to wear face coverings indoors around crowds and other areas where risks are higher. The state Department of Health and Human Services will still make social distancing and safety recommendations for all citizens.
The mask-mandate repeal in North Carolina hadn’t been expected to happen until June or July, since Cooper had wanted to first get two-thirds of adults at least partially vaccinated. As of Friday, only 51% of the adult population had received at least one dose of a vaccination, and the number of weekly vaccinations has fallen precipitously recently.
Nearly 72,000 first-dose vaccinations were administered last week, an almost 80% decline compared to four weeks earlier. Government and private marketing efforts are looking at ways to incentivize people who aren’t vaccinated to get a shot.

Cooper issued the first restrictions affecting commerce and schools in March 2020. A statewide mask mandate was issued last June.
North Carolina health officials have recorded over 989,000 positive cases since the pandemic began, according to state health department data. More than 12,860 people with confirmed cases have died. More than 900 people with the coronavirus are currently hospitalized — in contrast to a peak of about 4,000 in mid-January.

Nah, people are fucking pissed here in the US and basically there wasn't enough of a body count. No getting around that, the elites wish this thing was more deadly, oh well maybe next time.

Shit is hitting the fan economy wise, there is zero chance they can keep any covid BS around while we grapple with the next crash. Sorry, I mean miner market correction and economic downturn.

<paraphrasing> businesses will still keep requiring masks
Here is god fearing open red state most don't even have signs anymore, much less enforcement. That is probably only true in very blue states and large cities only. The backlash against masks is too strong imo.

edit: I never learned how to do a multiquote as to not shit up the thread with double shitposting. MODS HELP! But seeing as this is a containment thread who the fuck cares, besides me.

Is it that they don’t *get* that this relieves them from *needing* to engage with people over mask usage, or is it that they don’t want to stop policing mask usage? I’d be thrilled to learn there is no longer any expectation that I’ll harass customers and get myself possibly attacked. If they’re lying it wouldn’t be on me, not my job.

If you’re fucking vaccinated why the fuck should you care if someone else is lying or not? And if you’re not, wear your mask if you want and shut up.

If someone doesn’t want their kids out there without masks make them wear masks or stay home, if you’re immunocompromised wear a mask or stay home.
