Plagued Consoomers / Consoomer Culture - Because if it has a recogniseable brand on it, I’d buy it!

The ultimate problem with online condemnation of consoomers is that it turns into a hive mind of laughing at bing bing wahoo autists by those who make major mental whitelists for whatever they like, have it be Warhammer, graphics cards, anime, etc.

I had an OP planed for a theory post comparing the lasting effects of blind consoomers with a sort of antagonist: the type of /v/ermin you find with an off-putting negative disposition yet a similar addiction to media. This would not be some sophomoric devil's advocate "let people have fun" but more explore a class of media addicts who don't put a cent towards their interests and those who put far too much money into consumption for its sake. The problem with this dichotomy is that no matter how out of touch marketing teams are, they will eventually always pander to a consuming base, dumbing down said product.

The solution though is much less clear. To PL I have worked with small businesses and saw the difference between day-one customers supporting them wholeheartedly and when they drop off due to poor service. If everyone who sold art or media was like this then i would make some cold take about supporting what you love, steal what you don't, but larger companies have different interactions with customers and can't see a clear picture.

An example of why this doesn't work at scale - lot of seething over the years has been directed at AAA video game studios for streamlining their games for a much less informed or even caring individual. This is the result of not only a much larger demographic playing them than ever, but the original demographics not contributing or contributing less. This only snowballs the appeal to mass marketing. as the allure of some time tested franchise gets co-opted by those with wallets who desire whatever authenticity being a fan of a video game would lead them to. From a top down perspective, preorders for some crazy collector's edition of franchise game VI would seem to be by the oldest guard of fans but in reality it is misplaced cash.

I think that's why Funkos bother people across many walks of life, they are a mass market boxed item to buy authenticity of being a nerd and are often worse merchandise from all angles (cost, quality, replication) than normal branded merch. Others see the same fad as Beanie babies are remember just how useless those were after the apex of that fad (unless you were the actual demographic). Musician endorsed and labeled gear mentioned earlier is another nasty consoomer trap because I don't think they are purchased by those ride or die fans-from-day-one at all.

TL;DR : There's no point to wax poetic about how stealing IP is theft but also there's several lifetimes worth of whining about not being pandered to by non-customers that floods the internet.

also, audiophiles are so crazy, they'll complain about any alteration to what they deem the original recording but go on for hours about the "warmth" of vinyl which is all distorted the intended product. Having a great setup actually does increase the enjoyment of music and does come at a cost, but there's a lot of snake oil peddled by both the listeners and equipment manufacturers and you often find some funny hole in their quality cycle like $20k loudspeakers for spotify or going wild over a surround mix while on stereo.

I don't know, I kinda miss the people being paranoid about being coonsomers themselves. Meta-cows in the thread is always welcome, in my opinion.
Anyone who is insecure about possibly being a consoomer almost certainly is one. Everyone has autistic hobbies they dump money into, if you’re truly doing it for your own enjoyment then you should feel no need to justify your autism to anyone else because “I like it” is enough justification in and of itself.

Yea, we should've asked for a pic of their collection. It could be interesting.
Sure, "I like it" is enough justification. I do think you should be able to tell why you like it though, because coonsomers say that they like coonsoming too

audiophiles are the ultimate consoomer retards. somehow they all convince themselves that mathematics and physics are wrong and they also rely on reviews by old people whose hearing is shot
After thinking about it some more, I'm pretty sure audiophiles are worse than Funko enthusiasts. As retarded as Funko Pops are, at least they don't border on pseudoscience.

i never understood audiophiles. i listen to my music with cheapo headphones and that works perfectly fine for me.
Unless you're actually holding a job that requires you to manage audio then there really isn't any point in dropping thousands on audio shit, just the same as there's no point in buying a multi thousand dollar display unless you do color work. But "expensive is always better" invades all spaces, and in the hobby world it's incredibly stupid. It was mentioned earlier in this thread but even things as simple as keyboards have become a rat race to buy the absolute most stupid, obscure, expensive boards especially if they're fully mechanical.

I'm 100% convinced it's a scam. (Slight powerlevel I guess, but it's relevant) I've put a decent amount of effort into getting a nice audio setup and I've spent maybe $600 total. $250 speakers, $200 headphones, $70 Hong Kong made mixer that serves as a de facto receiver, and miscellaneous cords/connectors. I'm at a point where I probably won't be able to notice much improved quality, and my ears are still pretty young. There's just absolutely no way these boomers with a far more limited frequency range than I have are getting any value from their $2000 headphones and $3000 speakers and custom powerlines and all this other quackery. They don't even seem to really care about the music they listen to either, which makes me even more suspicious. They seem to all just be into classic rock, which I think is probably because 1) It's all pretty accessible and 2) being that they're all boomers (seriously, I've seldom seen an audiophile under 50) it's probably just what they're familiar with anyway. I have no idea what they think they're getting out of The Rolling Stones covering old blues standards circa 1964 that the average Zoomer isn't getting from his/her $60 skullcandys and spotify subcription.

I think it's really just a way for boomers to flex on each other. You can't really brag about all the FLAC files you downloaded off of slsk, but you can stick it to the other retirees and pensioners on the audiophile subreddits and forums by posting pics of the new $7500 Atmos setup that you bought with my tax dollars your social security check. Sorry for the rant, but I've had this on my mind ever since the topic came up in the thread a few days ago.

Most of these are Glitterandlazers who is herself a cow, but I'm posting these because I think PR kits are themselves pretty gross:

That last clip, fuck. This is already a sad trend but when these 'influencers' try to tack on that a product made for consumption that is full of plastic is somehow magically "ethical" because the company producing it says they're not doing something that the industry has done for ages without changing, and tacking on vegan on to that it becomes insane. It's just like going woke. Add more labels to your business while likely altering none of it's actual practices, but you get likes on twitter from Eco-slacktavists so it's all good.

Most of the animal ingredients in makeup/skincare/perfume, is by-products from the regular production of meat. People act as if animals only get slaughtered for the oil they use in beauty products, but nah. The whole animal gets used. It's wasteful (they use it for other stuff, but animal oils is what makes some products good and that's better than just burning it) and gives more often than not, worse products after a vegan reformulation.

Same with faux fur, it's pure plastic and it is horrible for the environment to be producing it. While I do agree that fur animals could be treated better, it isn't much worse than how cows, pigs, chicken are treated. Real fur isn't wrong by any means, but it's funny to trigger people about it.

In my eyes, producing something that will last thousands of years yet is likely to be thrown out as quickly as it's bought, especially if it's a purely disposable product is outright way worse ethically than killing an animal for products. Even if you don't use all of it's parts it will go back into the environment in short order and continue the cycle of life. What will plastic layering in a box do? Polyester fur? In all likelihood not only will these products cause much more harm to the environment than what little dopamine rush they gave to a consoomer, but they will actively harm an animal sometime down the road like plastic bags or straws, not to mention who even knows the hundreds of side effects microplastics are having just on hormonal balance in the bloodstream of basically everything now.

The best thing about hot takes about consumerism on the internet, whether pro or anti, is that it's impossible to escape the fact that a Congolese child probably suffocated to death in a cobalt mine in order to mine the shit that powers your electronic device of choice.

Welcome to globalism bitch
Luckily, black lives don't matter

Anyone notice how much consoomer shit they make for The Office US now? There were shirts and posters and stuff like that that most popular things have ten years ago, but now there's junk like toy sets, grills, children's books etc.

People Say.jpg

I'm going to sperg out for a moment and say that this product is stupid because it misses the humor of a joke on the actual show.

Michael: "People say that I am the best boss." *Holds up mug* "I bought it at Spencer's Gifts."

Amazon is selling this thing for $13. I'm pretty sure you could have bought this at any drug store for $1.00, just without the The Office logo.

Yeah, unless you are one of the few that can truly get off the grid from society (mad jealous of them) at some point you have to shake hands with the devil and be apart of the system. I tried once going without computer and phone, its impossible. You will not be able to survive in the first world without taking part.

Now that does't mean you can't lessen your impact. You don't need to upgrade to the latest phone. You don't have to buy a every imported plastic shit from China.

One of the more interesting consoomers is Maxmoefoe. Yeah I know he opens things because of his youtube grift but I guess getting wealthy so young makes you empty towards anything other than your childhood. Here he is opening 500 packs to pull one single rare card.

Here is Keemstar also collecting Panasonic 3DO games for god knows what reason. I've also heard him mention that he has a complete GameCube game collection but he couldn't find the source.

Saw a video of Hamberlynn Reid, the comments were discussing her coonsuming could be an other way of handling her eating addiction. Like, if she can't eat. She has to coonsum.
With Max, there is still speculations on that he's gay. So maybe he coonsoms to lessen the "trauma" of hiding it?
Anyway, best video
