Good question! Outside of East Asian cities you never really saw "facemasks" (like what other masks are there lol) being used on the street.

It can have a function of making people believe that the pandemic is serious due to social clues.
It can reduce the trust in people due to body language suffering due to not seeing the face.
It can show that you accept the order. (plus it shows who is not.)

Also I remember reading back then that in the Korean War Chinese used techniques to do brainwashing by making people do tasks that seemed mundane, but had psychological effects on the group and individual. (for example they were forced to write something nice about communism, they could even just copy a premade essay.) Masks are kinda similar it's something you chose to put on, ergo you are okay with it.

Bonus point for them is that facial recognition now can defeat simple masks.

I always thought that the spergy rants were a defense mechanism, just like David Ickes lizard royalty claim.

I don't think either men believe in the out-there stuff that they spout, but it keeps them just laughable enough not to be a real threat. If that makes sense?

Went to the gym today, was told at the door by the check in lady that masks were now optional if you were vaccinated (I actually am.) Immediately took it off and had the most comfortable workout I have had in months. Of course everyone else still had theirs on and half of them stared at me like I had just shit myself. Guy even refused to use the squat rack across from the bench I was using until I was done.

I have never received so much smug satisfaction in my life before from being hated. This is honestly fun.
