RPGnet Forums

It's been brought up before and the response has been "Well, there is no truly ethical consumption under capitalism so what can you do?" while they go back to their comfortable western middle class lifestyle. Rpg.net is not a tankie forum, there are no true diehard commies here ready to abolish the capitalist system, just a bunch of hypocritical neo-liberals.
This is obvious bullshit, though. There are plenty of ways of reducing one's consumption of capitalistic goods, even if you aren't willing to go full innawoods.

These turds don't just fail to decrease their consumption, they go out of their way to consoooooom the most vile and slavery-produced products. They virtually worship companies like Apple and Disney, that exemplify exploitation and abuse of Third Worlders. They would take extreme offense at my use of the term "Third World" while going virtually blind to the actual slavery that these corporations they worship inflict on the people who produce the products they conSOOOOOOM.

Here's where one of these fucking retards would post that stupid fucking Bors cartoon.

I can imagine that, thanks for clarifying.
I have been browsing the infractions site for a while now, I didn't knew there was a healthy thread here.
I feel sane reading your opinions, so thanks for that.

I would be 0 surprised if some FOIA request in a few decades reveals that the whole cafe communist larping consoomer movement was just another NSA gayop to character assassinate real commies and reformists. Oh and
>implying tankies want actual communism
The last thing the bugmen would ever want is an end to their fiefdoms.

What blows my mind is how they don't even try to moderate their consumption by avoiding the scummyest corps or shopping locally. That tubby faggot olivia hill jnr consoomed the ea mass effect remake and all the retard could think was shepard is bad because s/he's kinda a space cop if you squint real hard. Nevermind he just willingly gave money to the biggest corporate bastard in gaming.

I bet my right eye these fuckers eat Nestle products without skipping a beat.

I think using your mod status to 'win' an trivial arguement is the most cowardly thing I've seen in a while.

How the fuck are they not bleeding membership badly after this kind of moderating? The guy doesn't even really disagree with the mod he was arguing with, it's just a tactical disagreement, and one that some other prominent abortion supporters have made in the past.

Even if I were a leftist, this shit would piss me off, added with the patronizing tone of their little 'admonishments' I'd beg for a ban.

Because sockpuppets, Critical Role, and the fact that the RPG scene will never run out of lonely, socially-awkward losers.
That said, the minute a competently-designed equivalent not run by utter cunts is created I have no doubt it will do well.

at the moment inertia, historical prestige, industry conections and longevity keep it alive It's currently 'safe' as it has no true rivals in a niche demographic. It's position might be more tenious than it appears but it's hard to tell. I know a lot of people personally hate them irl but a lot of developers of rpg's drink the woke kool aid. If and when the zeigeist shifts away wheelchair freindly dungeons and other such autistic shit they might get dragged down in the backlash,

Do any of these people even have games they participate in? I feel like 90% of the userbase (and 100% of the mods) just "read" the latest WotC releases and larp about roleplaying. God save any GM who would be insane enough to run a game for any of these loons.

Essentially RPG.net is the biggest single group, but not the overall majority. If you add up all the smaller forums, like TheRPGSite, various publisher/game line specific forums like Dumpshock, various subreddits, 4chan's TG, etc? Way more people than RPG.net that actually are part of the RPG world (I'll get to that in a moment). But RPG.net is the biggest single congregation right now.

Actually, it's a seldom-talked-about, but acknowledged, fact that a statistically significant percentage of the active userbase do not play RPGs. Some of them did at one time, but some of them never did. There are people on TO that never played RPGs, who started posting there because of a friend, or because they posted on the Video Game forum or the Media forum was at one time one of the best forums for talking about things like sci-fi/fantasy movies, books, etc, and the video game forum was one of first (and for a long time only) gaming forum to have really active moderation.

And even some of the people who post there that would claim to be an RPG gamer, haven't actually actively pursued the hobby in a decade or more - they just stay for the social scene.

That's like staying in prison for the rape.

Nowadays. But it wasn't always like that. Even seven, eight years ago RPG.net was a different place. It still had it's problems, and it was getting worse, but there was still fun and good people there.

Fifteen or more years ago? RPG.net was actually great. Those were the era that the current staff (the ones that were around then) refer to as "the bad old days" or "the wild west days".

I used to visit RPG.net back then, I remember it well. The reviews were always fun to read.

Now that's just silly. All they had to do was have Dawgstar withdraw the infraction, based on how it had already been redtexted. But because RPGnet Mods Can Do No Wrong (TM), they have to make up some kind of silly explanation and dance around how Dawgstar is evidently too stupid to see how the post had been warned already and that it was nine months old.

I wonder if there are some folks on RPGnet who are now combing the post histories of people they dislike, hunting for something they can tag them with.

They always minimize and excuse when their rulings are called into question.
"H-hey guys we're just a ragtag little bunch of heckin' wholesome volunteerinos trying to keep things civil on this little 'ol elfgame forum." *bans poster under rule 0, no appeal accepted*

The mods are never wrong. Seriously. While sometimes they will reverse a ban, if you grovel hard enough, they never admit anything they do is wrong. Even when they've had three quarters of the forum protesting a bullshit call - and they've had a few really big ones over the years, and back then the purges hadn't begun- the closet they'll ever come to admitting mistake it is sort of the same duplicitous fart-scented wafting you got there - Basically, even if they miiiiiiiiight have been wrong, they don't feel it matters, because it's an elfgame forum, so shut up, stop complaining, and be grateful they don't ban you too. Because they can and will if you don't shut up.

*edit to add*

The infamous "the duty is on the poster to be clear" bullshit came out of one of those exchanges. It was many years ago, I don't remember who was involved or even what it was about specifically, but basically someone made a comment that, if you read it in a very specific, non-standard way, could technically be construed to be... I don't remember, a personal attack, or a group attack, or something. But that clearly wasn't the intent, and 95% of the forum realized that. But apparently a mod didn't. And when a good chunk of the forum was in trouble tickets over it, pointing out "you massively misread what they said, this is a bad call", the mods fell back on "well, it's your job to make sure we don't misunderstand your posts".

I wonder if rpgnet will ever be relevant enough that we hear some earnestly say "rpg.net was supposed to be a warning, not a guidebook!"
