I'm sort of impressed GW managed to restrain themselves from jacking up the price on the new Flayed Ones box by more than $5. I might actually snag a box next time I have spare cash.

It is so weird guessing how much GW will charge. $2.75 per model for monopose zombies, $12 per model for monopose heavy intercessors. That's why it's hard guessing what GW will do with Warhammer+, they teased great benefits. It's pretty obvious they can roll app membership into the WH+, but if it's an online store discount it would be worth it for any Gw player.

Valrak suggested that perhaps Black Library audiobooks could be thrown in as content.
If so, I can see how the monthly fee would be justified (some of those audiobooks can get pricey).

You think it's really "scummy" that GW is protecting the IP that they legally own, but are offering positions to these talented creators to help build their burgeoning animation department roster instead of outright purging them like what happened to Damnatus?
I think this is a much better deal than that.
I will say some of the edits in Astartes made no sense at all (why were some of the shots mirrored?). But if you are talking about music placements, GW does not own some of the tracks that were originally there so they had to make do with what they had (still unfitting, though).
And I've already said that I think monetizing these projects on their official YouTube channel would help increase exposure, but I can't help but think they do not want to give YouTube the 30% of any revenue generated in the long run.
 
A Warhammer+ subscription giving you a discount on the online store would be amazing. It would also piss off every single FLGS that deals in GW stuff, so they won't do it.

Early access to timed exclusive miniatures, though... maybe.

Maybe a new horror scenario, online only miniatures are restricted to WH+ users.
 
I'm not buying the "GW is just doing what Epic does" bullshit.
This guy was making over $15k per month on Patreon, had full creative freedom over his projects, and didn't have to be as selective about music and sound sample given that he isn't selling the videos and thus isn't infringing copyright for direct monetary gain.

I can pretty well guarantee you GW isn't going to pay him 15k a month. Nor is he going to have full creative freedom over his projects anymore. And now he's firmly shackled to copyright law.

Either this guy is just a sellout willing to compromise his vision to become "official", GW has suddenly learned after decades of being scumbags how not to be scumbags, or else GW threatened a lawsuit to get what they want because it would be entirely in line with their past behaviour and business practices.

My prediction is that in a few years he's going to be nothing but a low level employee shitting out soulless animations to advertise GW's new products.

Oh, there's no way in hell he signed willingly. Why in god's name would anyone give up $15k a month? "To go legit?" That's the corpo version of "for exposure."

Arch talked about this during his Warhammer+ vid. He doesn't have any evidence -- yet -- but there's no way GW didn't send these guys legal threats. Absolutely no way. These amateur animators doing fan projects could have moved on to their own original content and would have been ahead of anything GW could offer them outside of escaping a threat. GW needs them WAY more than they need GW.

No, I'm guessing we'll see one of these teams say no and get nuked off Youtube for his defiance. Heh, would be funny if it was the Emp TTS guy or something.

I can see Warhammer+ being a worthwhile subscription service if audobooks/dramas are included, a plausible possibility. The Black Library site has hundreds of items available that hobbyists would be happy to listen to while painting (specifically instead of reading books), but the prices are dang high with full novels at $40 each, triple the ebook price. That's over $2k for the 50+ mainline Horus Heresy novels and compilations, much of which is already regarded as being pretty trashy. While there are certainly some whales who'd shell out the money for that, I think GW has more to gain with a bigger audience, myself included, willing to paying over time for temporary access to the catalog. This also keeps Audible out from taking a portion of the revenue.

If GW will offer that, I hope their mobile app will also allow for downloads so that listening to audiobooks while driving won't rely on a data plan.

Im more interested in what the starting catalog is gonna be like. Obviously most of these are going to be a weekly series. They are going to have to drip feed people to keep subs somehow

Arch will say anything to make GW look bad I wouldn’t particularly trust him. Although losing out on $180,000 a year is fishy.

I wonder why none of them said no and revealed anything malicious GW was doing surely someone must have not given a shit.
