As someone who had some dealings with a local BDSM group whose meetings were held within the grounds of an university campus, frequented exclusively by stereotypical leftists (dangerhairs, soyboys and whatnot), I can say this is 100% true.
Of the dozen women there, only one was into domination, and all the others were there to be humiliated and bitch-slapped by skinnyfat manlets (menlet?) with half their arm size. The funniest thing about it was how open the male "doms" there were about being physically abusive in their previous relationships, but they weren't anymore because now the violence was consensual, and the otherwise loud feminists in the group didn't think anything of it.
From what I've observed, I think these women
want men to take the lead (just like most women actually do, they don't feel turned on by a man who's helpless, submissive, or passive like...a fucking child) but their ideology demands them to feel offended even by a guy being kind to them in the most harmless way (they honestly consider men opening doors or offering help to carry heavy stuff "sexist").
So how do they deal with this cognitive dissonance between their needs/preferences and their ideology? By using something their ideology approves of (like kink) to rationalize and express their needs/preferences. Just like so many leftists who are straight/cis but end up identifying as enbies/queers or — in the most extreme cases — troon out and form a "straight with extra steps" couple like
the Laverys so they don't downright admit to be boring/evil straights/cissies.
