First of all. I'm the /tv/ BO/Site Owner, not the /japan/ BO, John barnhill (The other guy you posted about itt) is the /japan/ BO on the webring currently. The only reason I'm clearing this shit up is so there is absolutely no confusion about what's going on here.

Here's a succinct clear to read Timeline of events for those interested in this shit. This is all from my personal experience/memory so take that as you will

• Hotwheels makes 8chan, Mark makes the original /v/ board on the site
• Site gets bigger with first 4chan exodus due to gamergate
• Eventually Jim Watkins Buys 8chan from hotwheels
• Shortly after this there was a second exodus from 4chan due to crackdown on /pol/ users. 8chan /pol/ quickly becomes the most popular board on the site. It also becomes moderated in a style that absolutely attracted wignats and eventually the mass shooters who's manifestos ended up taking the site down.
• At some point AFTER THIS Jim Watkins and Hotwheels have a falling out, leaving Jim in charge (I am not going into detail on this because their is a literal HBO doc on this bullshit if you want the details just watch that I guess or dig into it yourself lmao)
• Jim then begins PAYING MARK TO BE A MODERATOR/Beta tester for 8chan software.
• Mark's main job as Jim's worker ends up being reposting news headlines to /newsplus/
• Christchurch and Walmart shooting happen, 8chan is deplatformed in august of 2019 and essentially killed
• Mark launches vch.moe basically immediately afterwards. Essentially a bunker site to wait until 8chan came back (all of the webring were considered bunkers at this time) He is still on Jim's Payroll at the time (I was allowed to host my board on this site as well and is the basis of which I made tvch off of)
• 8chan relaunches/rebrands as 8kun, it is a complete disaster and barely functions. Only real userbase is for /qresearch/
• Mark immediately begins making plans to migrate back to 8kun. However the non-functional nature of the site and the lack of restored boards causes him to leave vch open for a few more months afterwards. (the site remained open for about a month after it was "shut down" just with my board being the only accessible one)
• 8kun /v/ is the only used board on the entire site out of /qresearch/ at this point
• At this time Mark is ALSO in charge of what boards are or are not being restored. He also was in charge of board ownership claims both on 8chan and 8kun. (If you had an 8chan board and wondered why it wasn't restored, the answer probably has something to do with mark)
• Jim and Ron Watkins announce in early 2020 that lolicon will be banned from 8chan because they spoke with a lawyer who claimed it could be classified as child pornography in a legal sense. This really fucking upset mark, moreso than even /pol/ not being restored. He considered this a serious infringement of 8kun's commitment to free speech.
• This as well as a fucking argument with Jim (pictured below white is jim blue is mark) causes mark to get fired by Jim and leave to make his own bunker

• Upon seeing this, I immediately contacted Mark ( I had been in touch with him for years, and even had met up with him in NYC when I went for a trip there for Wrestlemania in 2019, so I have his personal contact info) and asked him what this shit was and why it was on his site
• He told me that they "Didn't want this on their site" however he ALSO said they were waiting for them to "fuck up" before doing anything about it. Again this is not a major social media site with a ban and appeals process, this is essentially all up to Acidfag, Mark, and the other global mods on 8chanmoe. By allowing this shit on THEIR website they are essentially endorsing it
• Their solution to having a board literally dedicated to pedophilia on the site is not to delete the board. But to make it TOR only, and still leave it publicly listed on their webring list, which means any other sites that have 8chanmoe on their webring list will have /hebe/ pasted on their fucking webring for all the world to see
• Upon seeing this was their answer to this bullshit I immediately take them off my webring list, most of the other major sites follow suit. Most of us know how tenuous our situation already is and having this kind of shit puts both our sites and our actual real lives in potential legal danger
• At some point someone notices CIA ip addresses are being used frequently on 8chanmoe. No idea on the validity of this but regardless of whether or not it's true I think it is inevitable they either are/or will be investigated by a govt agency, both the hosts and the users. Rumors of it being a fed honeypot from the beginning are also circulating as well mostly related to acidfag's origins. I don't have any real info on that shit, not really something I wanna dig into. Regardless their lack of judgement on not deleting a board LITERALLY CALLED /hebe/ is pretty fucking suspicious.

And that is where we are currently. I do feel bad I gotta do this to mark, but the dude has clearly fucking crossed the line into actual illegal behavior territory and I can no longer allow it to go on. I enjoyed making the site theme and decorations for christmas and other holidays. It was actually my idea to add a barely visible menorah to the site background on hannukah.

However, you could be very generous and say that Mark may have told Null that he wanted anything legal in the US allowed. No exceptions. Since that includes lolicon that was a big fat nope from Null. Defending drawn loli was basically the default stance for 8ch users from the very start and the mostly unmoderated free speech original guiding principle of the site. Most of the posters and staff wanted to keep the global rules as thin as possible. Banning animu drawings would have been unacceptable to most of the userbase considering it was tolerated for all of chan history until very recently when chan culture veered politically auth-right. A younger and more idealistic Deluxe also believed it was possible to maintain a site that allowed all legal speech before getting tired of making personal sacrifices for ungrateful retards and scoundrels.

Everyone on the /v/ team had a healthy level of contempt for cp/child model posters though. Being a janny exposes you to a lot of really fucked up shit. Drawings were very low on the list of things to get mad about.

I don't know why Acid allows /hebe/ to exist when judging just by the name alone, it is clearly has no good intentions and exists to cause trouble. It might simply be that the remaining userbase on /v/ is just too autistic about 'principles' and are willing to fall on their proverbial sword (actually only the webhost gets any consequences) to defend scumfuck pedo parasites that don't give a shit about the longevity of the site. That's how it was on 8chan when Fredrick and Josh were involved until the admins hit a breaking point where it just wasn't worth it.

Turning on board creation was a mistake because the entire premise of 8chan is a mistake. You cannot give people free hosting on the internet and shoulder all the legal responsibility for what they host in return for nothing. People will take advantage of that. Only a decentralized system where users are responsible for hosting their own content can work in practice. Anyone left on the remnants of 8ch has yet to realize this.

I can't see why harboring these sorts of people is in any way positive for your site, even if it's about defending free speech...
I remember when pedo scum would bitch and complain on 8/pol/ about muh free speech while posting loli, because their right to coom to legally questionable and dubious content was worth risking the entire site's life for.
I had a feeling that certain powers wanted that place gone long before the shooting, it's a shame what happened, I kind of miss the earlier days of it, it was comfy... You just couldn't compare it to the sheer clusterfuck that is nowadays halfchan.

There's one thing that I never quite understood.
Didn't 8chan have zoophile boards and other notorious, less known boards created for the sole purpose of distributing questionable aged content? Aren't both things straight up illegal?

As far as I know, there were no zoophile boards on 8ch. Global mods see a feed of every post on every board so any secret club would be easy to spot. 8chan did not deliberately host any content that was illegal in the US. If it did, the site would have been instantly reported to authorities and shut down.

There's no hard proof of it, but the source of the cp spam was probably from people like Laurelai and Nyberg who wanted to shut the site down rather than MAPs (unrepentant pro-contact political pedos). I remember the folding idea guy being involved in some kind of self-own but I don't remember the details. I think there were actual MAPs on IRC but they spent pretty much all their time trolling meta boards and demanding reparations from the admins for being oppressed. Probably not more than a couple people, but very autistic and very aggressive.

If you're talking about generic drawn loli spam on sfw boards, usually it's just the work of some sperg trying to purge the normies from "his" board. Old 8ch/a/ used to do that a lot. Spamming pics from gelbooru is annoying but not a crime yet.
