This tweet made me lol. Basically, Stanislavski pioneered an acting technique that is based in trying to dig real deep into a character's head by a process of the actor's own self-reflection and attempts to psychologically get to a place where the character is. The technique is a form of, and very influential on, what we would understand as method acting; Think Daniel Day Lewis. The method generally creates a more naturalistic acting style. That might sound very basic now, and it is a lot more complicated than that, but as writing styles changed, new forms of acting were needed to pull it off. Method acting in general isn't as popular of a technique as it used to be, but Stanislavski is still relevant.View attachment 2206245
Romania. This ogre in a dress is in Romania.
The reason it made me lol is because I have seen performers woefully misinterpret Stanislavski and turn it into a weird ego-inflating exercise where they congratulate themselves on the profundity of their performance without any of the actual vulnerability the method requires to work well. I know the tweet is a (not funny) joke, but from what I've seen of Olly's "acting" in his videos, he plays each of his "characters" the same. Even when he's trying to pull off vulnerability, it's uncomfortable rather than moving to watch. So if he's actually a Stanislavski fan, he's doing it wrong.
