Social Justice Warriors - Now With Less Feminism Sperging

This is the exact reason why I don't take video game journalists seriously, all they do is bitch and complain about stupid shit.
Game journalists are absolutely essential members of society. Without them, who would inform us that our cisgender protagonists aren't actually progressive, report on hard hitting news about crucial developments in black people playing Magic the Gathering and how racist Magic the Gathering is, and make sure society doesn't suffer from a lack of content about gamer furries? And all of these riveting updates were delivered to us by the same person!

Genuinely do not understand the people obsessed with ending work. WTF will they do, then, in this new utopia where all men are paid for existing and no man must pay for his sins? Create art and commentary? If you really have the passion for that kind of thing, you make it happen around the day job.

I'd be interested to see a scenario where these lads are herded together into a closed system and given exactly what they want: regular income, no demands on their time, no obligations or responsibilities. They'd lose their minds. Without challenges, the brain goes weird. You need something to work for, something to work on, and a way to improve your situation.

I actually liked that movie, saw it in the theaters. Although it's been a long time, shit didn't The Time Machine come out in 2002 or something? No idea if it was hot garbage and I'm just remembering it fondly.
Time has been kind to it, IMO. What was reprehensibly shitty back in the day is now amusingly dumb, compared to the tripe we've been served recently. You can do a lot worse.

I think its that they all think that the world will eventually become an uber enlightened Star Trek-esque utopia where all is well. Except even in that universe there's still people with jobs and a need to keep things running, desires, new fields, constant research, and in many places the 'post scarcity' society isn't a thing at all. They just skip that shit and think nothing of it.

Sure it would be dandy to be able to work on things that inspire you or drive you exclusively, yet after a year of covid bullshit I'm hoping more people have realized that being left to hang out to dry will drive you mad.

An empty hope, I'm sure.

I hate this mentality, it especially annoys me in Lovecraft's case because I love to play the armchair psychanalist and try to explore how he conveyed his paranoid phobias into genre-defining supernatural stories. I personally find it quite fascinating.
but no you cannot talk about any of that, hes raycis lets cancel lovecraft again, yooo did you know your author is raycis,? that thing you like from that guy that lived 100 years ago... is racsit!!!
I wonder if the idea behind this is that the worldview of HP Lovecraft has percolated through derivative works, thereby inspiring or priming people for modern /pol/-tard ideology. Your stereotypical /pol/ tard loves video games, dark fantasy and anime and his worldview is like a cross between that of Tolkien and Lovecraft.
It's always "Lovecraft's racism" with these people... no mention of his genuinely awesome redemption arc.

Holy shit, even when Lovecraft shifted left he was still ahead of his time. "all the one-sided standard lore which, according to the traditions of the dying order, a liberal education was limited..." sounds like the core thing which the 60s postmodernists latched onto, expressed in comparatively clear language.

Plus he apparently called for the system where an aristocracy of intellectuals threading a middle road between socialism & capitalism runs society. And that's pretty much what we have now, given how think tanks and NGOs write all the policies and "fortify" the elections whenever things go outside their preferred window, though I think HPL would be horrified at the kind of "intellectuals" which became the most influential within this system.

There is slight merit to the consept of "punching down". This being that humor can be a tool of bullying and because of that people tend feel awkward about making fun people who are in vulnerable position. That doesn't mean we don't find those jokes funny or true, just that we recognize that they can hurt and so we probably should be careful about them. That's why we have humor subclasses of edgy and dark humor.

Taking a joke tends smart a little but not something most people aren't able do easily. Depends on personality and general sense of humor too of course but most cases if someone laughs or gets offended is about timing. We all have heard "too soon" or "not the right time". People do want and need be serious sometimes, or they just don't have mental energy to take a joke right at that moment. This is perfectly understandable and normal, so it's polite and kind give them space. Don't put extra stress on someone who is in active pain and trouble, or at least don't don't do it without warning and giving them change remove themselves.

Unfortunately some conditions leave people permanently in active trouble and less able fend for themselves. These people you can quite easily end up bullying if you aren't careful because you are punching down. Still most of people regardless of disadvantages are completely fine of being butt of jokes sometimes, humor is after all important social lubricant and can help through bad times. It sucks ass to be disabled and understandly can a sore spot for you but that doesn't mean you can't see merit of a comedian pointing out that people tend to let you get away with shit because of that disability. So it's fine to make jokes about these people too, jut be careful because they really might not be able to tell you when you are going too far.

Where I think "punching down" is being missused is who falls under it and how down they are. Sure people can go trough shit over their race, sexuality, gender, economic position, less than great looks and religion, but mostly these people are still normal and so should be expected being able to take a joke or tell to piss off like normal. Making fun of these aspects shouldn't be considered as "punishing down", at most it should considered risky like talking about politics with family. Something you might want to be careful about because it can lead awkwardness but won't actually harm anyone not overly sensitive.

So to sum up my position. Humor can punch people who are down and that can really hurt. That doesn't mean we shouldn't make those jokes, just think when we do those jokes. Also not all jokes that hurt are punching down, they can be just badly timed or you are being too sensitive.

I would post that Duckman clip, but that's been done to death. On one hand, I get what you're trying to say. On the other hand, people really shouldn't overthink jokes or take them personally.

With that said, here's the best of Al Bundy insults:

Lot of words to tell me you're a slut with a desperate need to be validated. Next time, try "My Dad left, and now I fill that void with sex and substance abuse."
