It was a question of some colloquial English left untranslated, rather than Canadianism.

I do not like the sound of this art residence at all, Labelle, the outed babyfur already was very suspect given EVERY job he‘s had put him close to children yet at least he didn’t have free reign since Billy was just an employee there but here he’s going to be in charge and I bet he’ll take in troubled trans youth, maybe some who have ran away or have been kicked out their childhood home and it sounds like the ideal way to find victims to abuse.

This is such a horrifying development and one that I've seen before. The LGBT community is absolutely terrible at calling out or denouncing predators & abusers in their midst, and as such, makes it such a prime hunting grounds for predators. Many LGBT people face housing and financial instability - most notably youths and minors who may be kicked out of their homes at a disproportionate rate than their non-LGBT peers. This leaves a vacuum for people like Sophie to swoop in, offer housing, and then take advantage of the people once they have moved in.
Usually these are minors, and they often move across states or countries to live in these places, leaving them with little to no resources to escape once the abuse begins, as they are often discouraged from getting jobs - or conversely, must get jobs and forfeit the majority of the income to their abuser. There is usually a large amount of sexual abuse present as well. There is no doubt in my mind that this is the sort of thing that Sophie is putting in motion. This is going to be an absolute shitshow, and I really hope nobody moves into her "artist commune" or whatever the fuck she wants to call it.

It's not going to be fun. Most people over there, regardless of religious beliefs, just leave people they don't like alone. Sure he'll get some dirty looks while shopping in town and some people might talk shit about him at the dinner table, but he won't get harassed or anything like that.

That just makes it easier to beg for pity bucks as well as making any child runaways more ostracised.
I doubt these Laestadians are violent like fundamental Muslims so at worst they’ll protest or something which Labelle would love and get plenty of free publicity over.
