It used to describe itself as 'for the older and wiser' but that's been replaced by the much more dour: 'While /r/asktransgender and other trans groups are great, some of us have families, partners, careers, and all the other trappings of not being in our 20s any more. Here's somewhere to talk about these things and the issues we face in transitioning.' Despite that heartfelt description, it remains primarily a troon selfie fest.

I was born -- somewhere between the mid eighties and early nineties. If you were a teenager back then, and you started thinking you might be a bit of a gay, it was pretty terrifying. Getting found out would have meant relentless bullying, abuse from your parents, and god help you if you went to a conservative private school. Your life would have been hellatious until you managed to get independence and fuck off. When I wished that shit would get better, this isn't what I was wishing for.

Usually i feel bad for detransitionners but there's some ludicrous stuff in this. If she thought she would be litterally "male" she wasn't failed just by medical staff but by the education system.
At what age are you supposed to learn about DNA and basic sexual developpment? This is so basic.

Also resuming "normal puberty" at 19? What's done is done. No hips for you.

I see this and I wonder how the fuck society is going to reframe these kind of people in history and society? Kids who are trooned out and end up a tragedy like that thread? and a lot of kids who were put on cocktails psychiatric drugs, misdiagnosed with 10 mental illnesses and stuffed in special education even if they have a normal brain at birth because their parents are too lazy to take care of them, and want a quick fix that would transform them into quiet, obedient zombies.

What will we do when those things are eventually outed as bunk. The lobotomy of 21st century. But the damage is done

We'll be in an age where a lot of people who were walking on the street were medical experiments when they were young? Would anyone see it? Would the society think they're broken and unsalvageable? We'll be in a time where having a normal body would be a privilege for the ones without nutty parents.

Some day there will be misshapen kids growing into misshapen adult because of some CRISPR fuckups that will be much more widespread than thalidomide epidemic. There will be be kids whose got a bunch of their organs replaced by malfunctioning cyborg replacement because their parents thought the flesh and blood were too weak. And whatever furry-genetic engineering that will happen in future.

As much as I marvel in how far medicine has become, the more we can alter human body, the greater the damage we can do.

Yeah this is why "cis" is retarded. I don't identify as anything, I don't have a "gender identity that is the same as my birth sex", I simply am a woman because I was born into a woman's body, the end.

It's part of the push towards troons being simply called women, because "trans women are women" and actual women being called "cis women" which calls them out as being privileged and every other awful thing troons hate them for.

I would think that even in the trans activist community, calling an adversary's (the book isn't even anti-trans, it's quite sympathetic) underage daughter a "cock-starved exhibitionist" and posting photos of her on your website would get you ostracized. His justification is that apparently calling a child "a cock-starved exhibitionist who's especially well suited to prostitution... or a fetishist who just gets off on the idea of it" is equivalent to Bailey saying "Extremely feminine gays like this later work as waiters, hairdressers, receptionists, strippers, and prostitutes, as well as in many other occupations". Ignoring the actual context of the real Bailey quote, the fake quote is orders of magnitude worse. And even if Bailey had said something nearly as vile as what James came up with, it still wouldn't justify this.

But of course, James is still the real victim in this, because Bailey dared to talk about how revolting it was for him to target his daughter and that actually is even worse than posting pictures of a child with the caption "A cock-starved exhibitionist".

I don't know about Christians specificially, but there's defintively an element where deeply conservative cultures will prefer if people just "transition" to fit into the whole male / female dynamic (Iran being the obvious example). That's often what happens when people talk about cultures with "third genders" - usually they end up existing either to specifically handle effeminate (or "failed") men or to handle shortage of males by having females take up typically masculine roles.

The Apache were famed for their skill in battle, which may mean you’ve never heard one of the most fascinating parts about their culture. Girls were expected to know how to do “boy” things, and vice versa. Why? Think about the home front during World War II. Neither of these societies–which have in some ways more progressive and egalitarian places for women and/or girls than contemporary societies–had two-spirit people. Was this because they were evil and repressive?

The Lakota two spirit people are never born women. Almost all of them, historically, have been men. Claims of intersexed/hermaphroditic people from the 19th/early 20th centuries should ALWAYS be taken with a significant grain of salt, because of the trouble Europeans in this era had distinguishing between homosexuality and hermaphroditism (both male and female homosexuals were often thought to have hermaphroditic qualities–a historical fact we’ll talk about in another entry!).

Were no Lakota women “born this way” while men were? Let me postulate a different theory: that it’s men in power who impose gender roles, and that Lakota men’s patriarchal society had to have somewhere to put “men who don’t ‘act like’ men” because of male gender policing. Lakota people put two-spirit men in the part of the camp where women and children lived, which was generally not as well cared for and considered not as prestigious because of the patriarchal way that they lived.

Actually it seems like transgenderism in Western World started similarly to Iran or cultures with third gender. At least it was the reason why Chris Jorgensen or others in 1950s were transitioned. And how old school trannies are mostly effeminate gay men. The social pressure of gender conformity and homophobia, as well as the advancement in endocrinology and surgery made 'transitioning' a way for people who don't fit into gender norms able to exist peacefully, at least.

While the reasoning behind absolute first case of Lili Elbe is largely unknown because the Nazis destroyed documents related to him. And I would presume it's simply an expression of a collapsing society of Weimar Germany, where people are pushing into extreme end sexual 'liberty'... And the crazy nature of German doctors and their willingness to do human human experiment at the time. Which wasn't just a Nazi thing. The whole German mad scientist stereotype has been a thing since Prussia - probably tied to their academic traditions and the whole deal with mechanistic worldview, and the attempt to churn out philosophical ideologies that would explain the world.
