I soft-reset, but it only took about 10 tries. If you really want a shiny Giratina and you have Sword or Shield with the DLC, try Dynamax Adventures, they have a 1% chance of giving you a shiny.I kind of envy you, because shiny Giratina is pretty kickass. Did you find it on your first try, or did you soft-reset to find it?
I never have the patience to soft reset for shinies. I once tried it for a shiny Aipom in Diamond on a honey tree, and after a half an hour, I couldn't take it anymore.
Veteran shiny hunter here. I'll tell you right now that the patience one has to have to do full odds shiny hunting can only be honed - especially if it's on games pre-Gen 6 where the odds were one in 8,192. It's something only mega autists can do and even if you manage to develop a taste for it the community is pozzed by sjw shit like most of the pokemon community. If you really want to try it I recommend the gen 2 starters in HGSS - you can actually see if the starters are shiny before you choose them and encounters stack up really quickly considering you're seeing three pokemon at a time instead of one.I kind of envy you, because shiny Giratina is pretty kickass. I got those. I don't think I have any extra palkia but I do have an extra giratina I think. Its been a while. In Gen V there was a distribution at Gamestop for a Shiny Giratina(there was also ones for Dialga/Palkia), but unless you find a copy of the download event cartridge(which is pricey since it wasn't meant to be obtainable to consumers), it's long gone. I do believe there is a way to spoof event distributions with the Gen IV and V games using fan-made servers, but I've never looked much into it myself since I got the event normally back in the day.
To be honest, shinies aren't that big of a deal for me. Some are cool and all, but not necessary. All of the shinies I have that weren't guaranteed or from events I just found randomly.Veteran shiny hunter here. But if you wish to do it theWeenie Hut Jr.normie way, do the SWSH DLC or Gen 7's wormholes - you can get the Shiny Charm easy and that should cut out a lot of time. Just stay away from the normie hunting community - they're boring and usually fake over-the-top reactions like aDrive does. They're also pozzed by SJWs too.
Oh shit, I forgot I got those! They're on my copy of Ultra Sun, I just haven't looked in a long time. Now I don't feel as bad.In Gen V there was a distribution at Gamestop for a Shiny Giratina(there was also ones for Dialga/Palkia), but unless you find a copy of the download event cartridge(which is pricey since it wasn't meant to be obtainable to consumers), it's long gone. Shiny Galar Moltres looks like if Ho-Oh decided it wanted to maliciously frame Moltres, so it put on face-paint and disguised its wings to go burn down multiple cities and forests, and eat small children.Speaking of which, I love how shiny Zygarde looks, kinda stupid how it was locked behind an event for such a long time. Only the story-relevant legendaries are shiny locked in SwSh.
Edit: these lovelies are shiny locked and I hate it

I did som event injections on official distribution ROMs. I even made my own distribution. In Gen V there was a distribution at Gamestop for a Shiny Giratina(there was also ones for Dialga/Palkia), but unless you find a copy of the download event cartridge(which is pricey since it wasn't meant to be obtainable to consumers), it's long gone. 1: so they can distribute the shinies as special events, no point even trying to hide this oneThe whole concept of "shinylocking" is retarded.
Why would they kneecap themselves with such an obscure gameplay feature for no reason starting in Gen 7? No one goes for a shinydex.
Shiny locks actually started in Gen 5. I guess it’s to keep the colors of the Pokémon consistent with the cutscenes, but it’s fucking stupid that things like the starters are shiny locked now (until you breed them, that is).The whole concept of "shinylocking" is retarded.

There are people that go for a shiny dex, but those people are few and between. Never underestimate the autistic dedication people have for this game. The whole concept of "shinylocking" is retarded.

The only use for it is on uncatchable 'mons like the Poochyena in ORAS. Everything else is just GF being retarded. The whole concept of "shinylocking" is retarded.

I can't help but wonder if that was to encourage people to use the Masuda method for starters. The mentality at GF seems to be to make the games as easy as possible - why not make it that you can only use the easiest method for starter hunting too? I might be reaching here, but I wouldn't put it past them.Shiny locks actually started in Gen 5. I dont , was alluding to what you posted here as to how few actually go for it and how unfair it is to them short of either outright cheating or using some form of Arbitrary code execution since shiny versions of every pokemon exist, like the fruit punch-stained solgaleo and lunala that have yet to be distributed. There are people that go for a shiny dex, but those people are few and between. ORAS at least had some online distributions of its legendaries, like a shiny rayquaza and groudon, as an anniversary online mystery gift. They even gave out a the only legitimate shiny zygarde in celebration during that "year of legendary pokemon" they had for Gen VII. shame that ORAS was the last time they used online distributions properly.Gen V was when this began, actually. The Liberty Island Victini and Reshiram/Zekrom were shiny locked. Gen VI also Shiny locked all legends obtainable in X and Y(The birds, Mewtwo, and the three main legends), and ORAS Shiny-locked Groudon, Kyogre, Rayquaza, and Deoxys. Gen VII Shiny locked all Gen VII Legends and Ultra Beasts in Sun and Moon, then let the Ultra Beasts be shiny in USUM. in Sword and Shield the only Gen VIII legends not shiny-locked are the two new Regis, even the Galarian Birds are shiny-locked(Also so is the Keldeo obtainable in the game, it is one of the mythicals that still has yet to have ever been obtainable as Shiny).

You can use a DNS exploit to get event Pokemon from the ds era games. In Gen V there was a distribution at Gamestop for a Shiny Giratina(there was also ones for Dialga/Palkia), but unless you find a copy of the download event cartridge(which is pricey since it wasn't meant to be obtainable to consumers), it's long gone.
