Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

Is this riding on the Wuflu scare or something worth worrying about? It's from China as usual, but just need a check from somebody who knows more than me about this.
When you can't trust our institutions, your guess is as good as mine to what is actually going on. Birdflu is probably more deadly than covid, but that isn't saying much.

Well it originated in a communist country and china did alot of shady shit to hide the issue. they dont do the same over other new illnesses.
Yes, and in short I generally agree that China most likely released it, either intentionally or through negligence. The difference is I am not claiming that is truth to someone in the government and expecting them to act on it without anything more to back it up.

Everyone -knows- China did it, but we can't yet -prove- China did it.

Do we need facts? they also have concentration camps... just nuke them and let russia have everything they claim in the east.

I think it was negligence. Trump was still in power during the outbreak and for a solid portion of it. The Dept. of State knows for sure but they are keeping that hidden. If Trump got a whiff that it was intentional he would've broken out in rage when he got it, if he could've kept the secret that long.

Ontario is still shutdown and Melbourne extends theirs for a second week

Melbourne pandemic lockdown extended to 2nd week

LOL morons. Even California is open. Imagine being the last loser to leave a cult. Do you think it'll be Canada, UK, or Australia who nabs that trophy?
It will 100% be Ontario, Canada. Doug Ford, the Premier (basically the Governor) of Ontario had a net worth of $3M in 2019. His net worth is currently $50M. He owns the company that prints all the bullshit covid stickers and signs. He's increased his public net worth by 16x. Also, the government of Canada has declared that they won't call an election "until the pandemic is over", and Doug Ford just finished passing a motion to extend his ability to pass emergency measures unopposed while Ontario is not in a state of emergency, all the way until December 2021 (when he's no doubt extend it again). The yuppie WFH elites DGAF about the lockdowns or anything else because they're making even more money than they ever did, and all the lockdown measures don't matter to them. Who cares about gyms being closed when your mansion has a massive private gym? Who cares about having to line up like it's the soviet union to get into the grocery store when you never buy your own groceries? Who cares about the quarantine hotels when you fly exclusively private and get to bypass all that bullshit?

Ontario is totally controlled by Real Estate developers, and the COVID lockdown shit has caused the price of real estate to skyrocket, so expect the lockdown in Ontario to be the longest, most drawn out in the world. Hell, I think it already is. Full lockdown in Toronto has been from March 2020-August 2020, and October 2020-present (and counting). Gyms were only allowed to be open for the month of August and September. It's fuckin insane. Foreign money buying up real estate and real estate developers bribing politicians will ensure this lockdown will last the longest in the world (if it even ever goes away, which I'm starting to doubt).

If things get bad enough the people have a way of working things out rather quickly. Oh wait we're talking about Canadia, nevermind. Y'all fucked forever, enjoy your lockdown anniversaries.

Even Commiefornia couldn't hold their people hostage that long. How embarrassing.

Well, the other shoe finally dropped. If I want to keep a job and save up enough money to move out of this shithole, I'll have to sign up for the local vaccine passport.

I wish I didn't have several group projects due over the next couple of weeks. Considering suicide is looking reeeeeal good right about now. (:_(

After reading on Free Jinger forums, reddit and a few facebook pages, I'm convinced people are downplaying their icky side effects from the vaccines. Probably afraid of being labeled a fear mongerer or science denier. "Tee hee I got my vaccine it was great I just had chills for a few days and some muscle pain. No big deal!" Bitch you probably had a high fever, quit lying.

Also new fun thing, five days after getting the Pfizer vaccine I'm getting "brain zaps" like when you quit an SSRI. It happened last night and then just a few minutes ago.

If I don't get superpowers or something cool like that out of this I'm going to be disappointed.

Yeah Canada is fucking retarded for protecting their people from getting the Chinese lab disease. I bet 5 years from now you are gonna find depressing medical articles about how to cope with post covid syndrome.

"Out of breath? Don't worry you are not alone here is 5 tips to improve your quality of life post covid".

Fucking based!
God Speed Corona-Chan!!!

1) COVID doesn't kill 2%, it kills 0.2%, less than a quarter of a percent
2) It doesn't kill randomly or equally, the population cohort that would be vulnerable in Year 1 & 2 would already be dead in Year 0.
3) Viruses rarely evolve to be more lethal, because killing your host is a trait that impairs transmissibility. As time goes on the virus lineages which do less to their host but spread faster will likely outcompete those that cripple their host and miss out chances to replicate.
4) More babies were born in the US alone than COVID killed globally. Read that again.
COVID could murk the same number of people it did in 2020 year after year after year, and the US alone would be enough to replace and maintain the global population.

Yes.
Most skeptics have been saying this since early on.

>acts like people don't know about viruses
>thinks the trend of viral evolution is to become MORE lethal
I said "consider the scenario". Because that is what Virologists do. You consider where something could go and take action so that the scenario doesn't happen. Like mandating masks and shut downs. Not to avoid deaths, just to avoid hospital overloads.

And this virus has mutated into more infectious and more dangerous lineages. So concern is warranted. Unless of course the China strain which was replaced by the Italian strain, which was replaced by the British Strain, which was replaced by the Indian strain which was replaced by the.... is just a fluke.

And we are very early on in this pandemic, it has infected a small fraction of the global population but will march forward.

Viruses don't decide to become less or more lethal, it is chance and the environment. If the environment provides circumstances that favor a strain that is more lethal then it will dominate. If you wish to stick Ebola into a stadium and start lecturing about how it will become less lethal go for it - the environment you have given it does not put it under pressure to survive or succumb to a less lethal strain or more lethal strain.

A strain must be put under pressure to force a selection process to take place by the environment. And we have billions left to infect and relatively few things preventing it. Now once we have a global scenario where a majority of people have had the virus you'd expect to see some great drop in the mortality - unless of course immunity wears off and the strain mutates.

And your comment on a mortality rate of 0.2 % is garbage. And I think you know this.

let's just hope you don't have the severe side-effects or die, fren :semperfidelis:

Um....

"We will Hold Elections when the Pandemic ends" say the people who can get voted out if elections happen..and thus have an incentive to NEVER LET THIS SHIT EVER END?

They are more infectious but not more dangerous.
This is just a lie you pulled out your ass.

No fucking shit, Sherlock.
If the environment provides circumstances that favor a strain that is more lethal then it will dominate.
But what circumstances favor a strain that is more lethal?

Not killing or even crippling your host is an objectively more favorable trait, because it means your host is still capable of interacting with potential future hosts.
This isn't Plague, Inc.; the viruses aren't "trying" to wipe out their host species. Transmissibility is favored over lethality, because spreading better is more likely to ensure continuation of gene flow; and at the end of the day a virus is acting with the same evolutionary goal that you and I are: pass on your genes or die trying.

The only situation I can think of where killing your host is favorable is if you are some kind of virus that infect scavengers/detritovores and leaving your victim a bloated corpse attracts more corpse eaters to come get infected. Otherwise, killing your host is a poor adaptation.

And your comment on a mortality rate of 0.2 % is garbage. And I think you know this.
Oh my bad, it's like 0.23-0.27%, big difference.

Eat a dick, doomer.

I doubt the mutations are mainly being driven by "environmental Pressure" I am pretty sure the mutations are happening because of the fact its spread to practically every place on the face of the earth people populate and the sheer amount of virus replicating at any given time will produce viable variants occasionally.

You are so fucking stupid you don't even realize what you just described IS environmental pressure.

The dawning realization that you're even bigger cucks than Californians. Canadians should just Jones Town themselves now, it would be less embarrassing.

Retarded.

Viral mutations tend to become less harmful but more transmissible over time. Stop watching movies and read a fucking book.

If we stopped trying to stop something that can't be stopped nature would deal with this for us.

However injecting hundreds of millions of people with non sterilizing vaccines may well challenge the virus to become more virulent AND more deadly. So um well done I guess?
