1) COVID doesn't kill 2%, it kills 0.2%, less than a quarter of a percent
2) It doesn't kill randomly or equally, the population cohort that would be vulnerable in Year 1 & 2 would already be dead in Year 0.
3) Viruses rarely evolve to be more lethal, because killing your host is a trait that impairs transmissibility. As time goes on the virus lineages which do less to their host but spread faster will likely outcompete those that cripple their host and miss out chances to replicate.
4) More babies were born in the US alone than COVID killed globally. Read that again.
COVID could murk the same number of people it did in 2020 year after year after year, and the US alone would be enough to replace and maintain the global population.
