Gamergate III: Rise of the Machines

Remind me what this is about.

Early on, The Fine Young Capitalists were getting together to get inexperienced women devs into game development with proceeds going to charity. Zoe Quinn initially was interested but when she learned the proceeds would go to not-her, she threw a shitfit, starting up a competing game jam project and DDOSing (purportedly by accidient) TFYC's website with friends of hers.

A year later, Zoe's Jam has produced nothing, whereas TFYC's game releases in about 5 days.

Quinn really doesn't seem to realize just how badly she's lost from all of this. Her carefully crafted nonthreatening, quirky girl image has been damaged beyond repair. There's not enough spin in the world to make her look like sunshine with all the information out there now about her. Her new beau is unemployable by his own actions and a lot of her friends have lost jobs, reputation, and money going to bat for her. When her new project inevitably fails or gets revealed to be the scam everyone expects, there won't be a safety net to catch her like last time.
Which is why I can't feel sorry for people like her. Like Anita, Zoe could've been a better person, stood strong and worked through or better yet, ignored the trolls but she failed and most of her supporters don't realize this.

Remind me what this is about.

Before the Five Guys things or Gamegate even had a name Zoe Quinn was planning to record game jam. It's when you get a bunch of people together and they make a game within a set period of time. She had been taking donations for a long time and then Five Guys happened and people started digging to find out more about her. Turns out the donations go directly into her personal paypal account. People called her on it and her and her bf insulted people who brought this up and eventually claimed Zoe is registered as a business herself (I'll just assume this is true) so it's all on the up and up.

The thing is that game jams don't take this fucking long to set up and a few months ago Zoe still claimed it was going to happen despite no new information coming out at all. It's worth pointing out that Zoe Quinn is planning a 48 hour game jam. Zoe was interviewed in a documentary where a shitload of people did a game jam ON A TRAIN RIDE. It wasn't even the biggest part of the documentary but rather just footage they showed in between interviews about the indie game scene. Another thing worth noting is that right before Five Guys happened Zoe Quinn was part of a failed recorded game jam and during the process she actually made internet sweetheart Jontron (who loves fucking everyone) to hate her personally. Apparently the goal for the teams was to do a Let's Play and Zoe insisted the team she was on, which had Jontron on it, they do a Let's Play of her game where you have a staring contest with a picture of Jeff Goldblum where you click the mouse if you blink. Jon realizde what a shit idea this was and made the mistake of disagreeing with her.

Her game:

Yeah, nah, you're a real game developer Zoe. For reals.

Oh, so is that what happened in that Game Jam? Jontron (who seems like a nice guy) has always been really vague about what happened, and what litle information there is on the inccident (I found one article) never really went into the details of it.

Jeffstare. Hmm. Is this supposed to be a hipster game...or?

Gamergate has taught me that crowd-funding is the most efficient way to scam people.

Not really a game. It's more an attempt to tell the world how quirky and fun the creator is rather than create anything fun.

Even hipster games have some effort put into them. I'd feel bad grouping it with those.

So.... this is just coming through the wire and numbers aren't fully set in stone, but y'all remember Cracked.com? That one place that was actually funny and had Seanbaby writing for them and had interesting stories, and then they went and decided go full speed into SJW/ clickbait territory?

They're owned by Demand Media. And Demand Media is apparently shuttering their Austin office and cutting about 100 heads.

Wah wah waaaaaah.

Seanbaby, let's play 'em off.

HA HA HAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! Fuck u Cracked! David Wong is a turd.
Has anyone called out Wong for 'cultural appropriation'? I mean, dude is whiter than white.

At least Zoe Quinn and I now have something in common:

We both completely forgot about that game jam.
Remember that black eye she promised to give GG?

I'm still waiting for that.

Cracked is still butthurt over Gamergate.

SJW said:
Anyway, gamers often insist that, yes, while every video game character that has ever existed is a straight white male, this is only true because there are no women or black people who play video games, because women and black people are imaginary (you can tell because they never appear in video games). Except no part of that is true.

He said at the end to "follow him on Twitter unless you're a fucking pussy," which deliberately perpetuates the toxic patriarchal notion that women and femininity are bad, and literally erases the existence of trans people.

JF Sargent confirmed sexist transphobic (probably) racist shitlord

New Indie-Fensible! It's a closer look at the restraining order.

This video mentions the case Woolridge v. Hickey, which states that simply because an abuse prevention order has been vacated, it does not render an appeal moot. This is why.

2. Mootness.   Although the abuse prevention orders have expired, Hickey's appeal is not moot.   Entries of the orders against Hickey have now been made in the Commonwealth's criminal records system, and Hickey could be adversely affected by them in the event of future applications for an order under G.L. c. 209A or in bail proceedings.  Frizado v. Frizado, 420 Mass. 592, 593-594, 651 N.E.2d 1206 (1995).   Hickey has a surviving interest in establishing that the orders were not lawfully issued, thereby, to limited extent, removing a stigma from his name and record.   Section 7, third par., of G.L. c. 209A provides that whenever an abuse prevention order is vacated, the court shall direct the appropriate law enforcement agency to destroy all record of the vacated order.   See Smith v. Joyce, 421 Mass. 520, 521, 658 N.E.2d 677 (1995).   As to the limited nature of that destruction (it does not extend to expunging records from the Statewide domestic violence record-keeping system created by St.1992, c. 188, § 7), see Vaccaro v. Vaccaro, 425 Mass. 153, 155-159, 680 N.E.2d 55 (1997).   Contrast Wotan v. Kegan, 428 Mass. 1003, 697 N.E.2d 133 (1998).

In short, there are still adverse consequences from having had a bogus restraining order filed against you, even if it's been vacated. The information is still in state databases. It could still come up in future proceedings as being, basically, on your permanent record.

Therefore, Gjoni still has an interest in pursuing the appeal. I think this handles the mootness issue that's been discussed previously.

One disagreement: the order being found unconstitutional wouldn't open Zoe to any more perjury trouble than she's already in. Its unconstitutionality is the judge's fault.

If Zoe's affidavit were perjured, she'd be liable for that regardless of whether the order is constitutional or not.

Seems the article is getting torn up in the comments at least

I notice it emphasizes the stupid contretemps over Matt Taylor's shirt. That was ridiculous, but it was more than him being criticized for his shirt. It was that that shirt (given to him by a female friend) completely overshadowed the actual important scientific event.

A better example, though, is Tim Hunt, and they wouldn't touch that with a ten foot pole. To this day, the section of his Wikipedia article about the fake scandal of his "sexist remarks" takes up most of his article, with his Nobel Prize-winning work completely overshadowed.

This is the kind of undue emphasis this bullshit gets.
