Inactive Andrew Dobson / Tom Preston / CattyN - STOP DOING SEXIST CRAP

Always happy to help! Here, have this nice stop-motion frames collage.

I will never not be in awe of just how fucked this is. What especially shocks me is the size and shape of the head constantly changing from frame to frame; you'd think he'd know how to fucking in-between, seeing as how he would have learned this shit in college. From looking at this, I'd wager a guess he used four keyframes---these ones here:
mowglikorra.jpg
---and I say that only because the head shape/face is somewhat consistent in these. But it's entirely possible he didn't even use keyframes and just tried to animate the sequence one frame at a time one after the other, which is what an inexperienced amateur would do.
Shit like this is why it especially irked me when he'd smugly claim he was an "experienced animator" any time he tried inserting himself into animation drama.

Thank you! Since he didn't delete it yet and he might, here's an archived version.

I'll always find Asami's response hilarious because after everything Korra said to her, she just said "wow! um...... yes!" and nothing else to such an emotional moment like a freaking marriage proposal.

From what I recall, it was a request by a fan to be acted out while at a convention by the voice actors. What’s extra funny is around the same time Dobson released the animation, they did a different version at another convention that was better prepared and more involved.

And of course... he moped about it. He didn't take the opportunity to crunch out a better animation, he just moped about how the new audio can't be used for his video. :story:
Can't make this shit up. Clearly, animation was his passion, when he can't even be arsed to make a new animation.

Fool, you forgot the best frame:

She looks like the colonel from Akira in that one.

That looks a lot like 1920s Soviet animation:
Worker and Parasite vibes with that one.

But it's kinda fascinating, that the capitalists in a 1924 movie have swastikas under their tophats, is this really made in 1924? That use of the swastika symbolism seems more in line with late 1930s at the earliest.

That's puzzled me too.
My understanding is the Nazi party adopted the swastika after it was in use by right-wing factions in the street fighting in Weimar Germany; both sides used their WWI German Army kit, and the right wing "Stahlhelm" factions used the swastika to distinguish their side from the Communists. It does seem odd and interesting the Soviets picked up on that long before it became a national symbol.

As long as we’re posting the KorraSami stuff again….

One of these days I'll have to do a frame by frame analysis of this animation to breakdown why it sucks so much. It is insane to think that it is this thing the culmination of his oeuvre. What a waste of time and money was that degree. Imagine if he had to pay back a student loan on top of that. Probably his parents paid for all so there was no incentive for him to work his ass off and git gud.

And of course... he moped about it. He didn't take the opportunity to crunch out a better animation, he just moped about how the new audio can't be used for his video. :story:

Like every tool and technique, "Squash and Stretch" has a time and place and a degree of intensity to said use. The semi-realistic art style in Legend of Korra wasn't particularly fit for such pronounced deformations, much less for the faces. I wouldn't be so critical of Dobson's animation if at the very least he had drawn the characters on-model with the show but that's too much to ask of him, he cannot even keep the proportions consistent within his own style, add deformations and the whole thing goes to shit.

What are you talking about, Mowgli is on-model in ever frame!

Man, that Asami's response & emotionless action is canon.
I'm not joking.

I love how he always refused to go back and fix things because "It's done, so nothing can be changed" even though he was working digitally.

Most likely because if he revealed he was capable of going back and making alterations, he'd be letting the critics win, somehow.
