I actually like that there's western content that does that rather than just circle-jerk and ride the Japanese culture dick all the time. You're allowed to appreciate parts of a culture while at the same time, criticize its most inefficient and autistic parts. The TT guys actually have first-hand experience in these things since they do live in Japan and actually interact with Japanese businesses and culture - so the fact that they're actually more than willing to speak up, talk about and criticize the general autism of Japanese culture is great. It's not too different from the general bitching we do about Japanese culture/autism on this thread - only without the "faggots" and "niggers" thrown in.

FWIW, Php 2,500 converted to dollars is $50. I think the simplest reason (among the many that can be cited) people hate on Gigguk is just the fact that he has anime tastes/opinions they don't agree with - which is where the general toxicity in anitube stems from. You're allowed to have shit tastes and opinions, the problem with anitube is the faggots who get worked up about content-creators who don't just agree/validate their fandom.

Whilst I do appreciate that they're critical of something often wrapped in cotton and protected by its people and those from the west who romanticise it, it's fundamentally not a culture that really accepts that - certainly not from a group of foreigners who live there. That, and they're also kind of assholes.

I mean, they really grilled the idea of Japanese YouTubers reacting to Japan-related videos, citing that 'Being Japanese isn't a qualification or selling point', completely disregarding the fact that, by their own words, they aren't 'qualified' to be mouthpieces of the Anime community just because they're anime fans. And yet, most of them accept sponsorships with anime companies, showrun for Crunchyroll and Funimation. It's hypocritical, and there's an air of arrogance that permeates most of their opinions.

Sun Tzu once said 'All things will one day collab with TheAnimeMan'. I think people who aren't part of their fanbase actively don't want to watch their shitty opinions, or don't find them at all palatable, and so finding them in spaces they do engage with is annoying.

I just wish people weren't retards about it. Don't dislike bomb Calli because you're not a fan of the guest, and then get trigger-happy when JP fans of Aqua start sperging on her. Gigguk ain't even that bad.

I start watching some of GG content after him spending $1000 try to get Astolfol in FGO literally before FGO hand out the 4 star tickets freebies.

The whole fiasco was about him being obviously hypocritical when he trash talk hololive streamer style while shilling for Sydnap and Vshojo especially after that immature Veibae hiccup.

When’s he ever been critical of Hololive? He was literally on the vtuber train before HoloEN was even a thing, made a video shilling some of the Hololive JP girls, and talked on the podcast about how much he enjoyed them.

On the other hand, I’ve literally never ONCE heard him even mention Vshojo in his content (if it’s on Twitter I wouldn’t know, fuck Twitter) much less shilling it.

People dislike when some GB born Thai is telling you what anime is good or bad, when the whole point of watching anime or Japanese based Vtubers is to escape western opinions, at least from my east european point of view. Doesn't help that most anituber look like they have never showered in their life, making even Kiara's future best friend Asmongold look good.


Is Kiara in her 30s, saying she played vanilla and stopped with TBC. And now I have to be an anti and doomposter because she plays alliance.

I think that’s just objectively not true. The Western anime fanbase is basically completely insulated from Japanese opinions (because very few people actually read or understand Japanese, making it impossible to engage with Japanese social media) and there’s lots of shows that are SUPER popular in the West that were just never that big in Japan, and also vice versa. Maybe a bit less common with modern stuff thanks to simulcasts. The only opinions that MATTER in the Western anime fandom are those of other Westerners, just by virtue of the fact that 99% of everyone you’re interacting with as a Western anime fan is going to be a Westerner.

It would help if you said what he lied about or what "fake ideas and misconceptions" he spread, because w/o that, it just sounds like a lot of autistic dumb shit and it will be even more autistic if it ends up being about anime tastes.


Also, the chicken's TBC stream seems to be the biggest out there, at least comparing it to Twitch numbers.

I fail to see how any of these three points are related. Unless they said something like "The entire community thinks this", the fact that they gave their opinion on reaction channels that use the fact they are japanese as a selling point has nothing to do with the fact that they aren't qualified to be mouthpieces of the anime community.

And these two points combined have literally 0 to do with the fact they accept sponsorships from crunchy or funimation.
