Was gonna say “hobo camp”, but I guess that’s basically what the tranch is.
Interestingly enough, legit Depression-era hobo "jungles" (camps) had standards, ones that the Trancheros wouldn't have met.
They even classified themselves into 3 main groups:
Tramps: Too honest to steal, too proud to beg. Will travel and work in the shittiest conditions imaginable to earn a living.
Hobos: Will work when work is to be had, but will also beg and borrow, but never steal, when necessary.
Bums: Lazy individuals who refuse to work. Will beg when they can, and steal when that dries up.
Most jungles had rules like the following:
-Don't disrupt the lives of the townspeople. Be respectful to them, and don't give them a reason to want us thrown out.
-Work when you can get it, and be grateful, even if the work is hard and the pay is low. Complaining wears out the welcome for everybody.
-Keep the jungle neat, and don't allow trash and filth to pile up.
-Look out for your fellow jungle mates. If someone is sick, hurt, or hungry, do what you can to help. You don't have to give your last penny, but if you have a nickel, just remember next time it could be you.
-Child runaways must be encouraged to return to their parents, and if they refuse, turned into the authorities. At all times and without exception, they must be protected from danger at all costs.
-Drunks, dope-fiends, junkies and bums ruin things for everybody. They bring crime and disease. They are not welcome in the jungle, and if they don't move on, they will be moved on.
