General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

Guys, those superchat numbers are impressive and all, but I wouldn't qualify them as "Rich". For example, Kanata. 1M in superchats. Cut in %60 from Superchats and Hololive (if not more) That's 400K left. Plus income tax, which Japan is known to have some of the highest in the world. I've checked a stat and it's probably around %30 on that. That's 280K left. Probably after other taxes, let's round around 250-260K plus merch.

260K may be a lot if you are a scrub living on Govt. Giros but that's nothing if you want to buy a property in any major city in the world. You'd get laughed out of New York, California, or Austin. In Tokio, that at one time was the most expensive real estate in the world, you are a fucking lice if that's all you've got to show. (And other major Japanese cities aren't much better).

So no, that's not rich by any standards, and yes, while you won't starve; look at her situation. She has to "room" with Coco, which as well as they may get along, is not what a rich person would do if they could afford either property, or renting alone even. And they still live like Hikkikomoris with frugality because the cost of living is so ridiculous. So no, I don't think most Hololives are rich by any standard.

You forgot memberships, probably the biggest source of income.

Let's say a measly 1% of Kanatan subs are tier 1 members. That's 8800 peeps x 5$ = 44000 $ per month.

Rich is a very subjective word but if you ask a random person in the world (and just not your average big city folk), 9 out 10 people will laugh at you and say of course they're rich.

Saying "they're not rich by any standards" is just you being in your tiny bubble.

you also forgot sponsorships, ad revenue, hololive salary and bonus, merch, entrances fees to concerts and possibly more

I mean being a shill is fine. But people would find shilling what essentially a Chinese game nearing Coco graduation announcement as a poor taste. I don't really blame them.
While I understand everyone is justified in having baggage about the chinks, people really need to stop letting them live rent free in their heads.

Not every single thing is about politics and Coco.

The company is the one hiring managers, laywers, programmers, digital artists, middle men, executives, etc and finding out sponsors deals. Not the girls as indies. That's not an unsubstantial expense. And all those salaries come out of the girl's profits. Of course, no Holotalent is going to say "Guys, the company is shaking me down worse than the Yakuza." while on their payroll obviously.

I digress. Keeping up with Kanatan, making let's say for example, 250K clean in profit for a year of labor is superb. (what a PM in a first world country makes). But let's see the long term. Something tells me the girls know that only a few will have long term careers. And if it's true that they are considered "contractors" then retirement money, taxes and expenses will be a bitch. Coco barely lasted in Holo a year and a half. (debut dicember 2021)

Personally, if I was lucky enough to be making 250K or 150K clean a year and saw myself making the same even 5 years in the future, the first thing I'd think about is investing in quality property. Kanatan still won't be given a credit card and is rooming. And I think that's a deliberate decision that tells a lot about finances. The pandemic will end and the Vtuber bubble might pop.

TL:DR Some girls made considerable money. But not enough to be made or even be comfortable even a decade from now unless they live like Monks or move away from huge cities.

280K a year is 6 times the median salary where I live. It’s still 4x the median income even in a place like San Francisco. You may not be able to buy a house in cash, but you could definitely put down a sizeable down payment. They’re not literally Bill Gates, but if they put it all in savings for 4 or 5 years, they could live off the interest for life.

Also, probably late, but I’m watching Subaru play Henry Stickmin and I’m really impressed by how good her English cognition is. Also, it’s really funny how despite being an unfailable game that is basically just clicking options, the girls’ personalities still come through in which ones they want to see first.

Sorry, I don't like to sperg about economics, but you are just plain wrong and you don't know how the economy works in Japan.
Japan, deposit interest rate.png

Japan was almost in a deflation and the deposit interest rates in banks is literally fucking negative. The banks have so much cash, they are loaning at minimal interest. At this point in Japan, if you have 500K (and that is on the low side) and you don't have property you are a certifiable moron because renting will literally burn through your money. So unless the girls want to play it big in the stock market, rent will eat through more money than the winnings of most investments; that what would be saved if you had bought property.

Also, don't get me wrong, I hope the girls stay in the game for a long time, but my hard cynicism/realism as of recently really doesn't most see girls lasting 3 years more. At least, not earning at the current rates. There will the end of the pandemic, viwer poaching, innovation from other places, and new talents (from Holo and other places) always dropping by. VOMS 2 and EN 2 will come soon, and that is only the start.

And still can't get a credit card, Piss Poor credit Tenshi.
Wtf are those girls doing? I refuse to believe that fucking Japan of all place hasn't got a modern banking system. Still, she was broke as shit before joining (to the point of eating grass for a meal) so her credit must be in the shitter still.

2.2 Million in Total since she started. And then Coco maybe sees a third of that before taxes. Still really well off though, especially since she lives really frugal. I think she mentioned that she only spends about 150k yen a month (outside of stuff like her bed, which again, is mainly for health reasons).
Going by what we saw, she's on her thirties and taking care of her health is indeed a priority. No idea of how the living standards in Japan are with that money, but she definitely shouldn't be eating just premade crap like instant noodles since that's a good way to speedrun wrecking her digestive system.

Ollie is flat lol

Would Gori-tan continue with shitpost review?
Lmao, she probably doesn't wear a veil then (I'm assuming because Indonesia is basically Islamistan in Asia). Also props to the translator, can't imagine the pain in the ass it is to translate her energetic switching from english to indonesian to japanese as she does in a heartbeat lol.

Not to mention they also get a base pay from Hololive, on top of SC cuts, YT Memberships, merch revenues (though they do have to invest on those ones) and ad partnerships (Botan and Aqua Red Bull sponsorship). Also while Tokyo can be expensive, it could very well be that they live in the outskirts of Tokyo and from what I heard, cost of living isn't so bad outside of Tokyo. Heck, even within Tokyo it's not as bad compared to LA or Vancouver.

EDIT: Meanwhile in an alternate universe:
They pay a meager salary from what I've heard (makes sense since it only stimulates them to be creative and earn their keep) so it's safe to say there's nobody going hungry over at Cover. But yeah, anything more than that, you gotta work hard for it - which is kinda bad but not a catastrophe if you find yourself unable to stream for a while. Still, only one of their idols left by their own accord by now, so it must be ok after all.

Mousey Spanglish stream.
I cringe everytime a Vtuber speaks Spanish, not sure why.

Someone just gave her the nickname "Ratanas" LMAO
-sniped, damnit-

why do beaners and bootleg beaners feel like announcing where are they from in chat/super chat?

I think it was Choco talking about not being able to afford bean sprouts for her instant ramen when she got demonotized. So that salary isn't much.

You'd be surprised. I know people don't really like Trash Taste around here, but the fact is they're foreigners who moved to Japan and has to deal with day-to-day businesses. Here's some clips about Japanese banks.

TLDW: Japan's futuristic innovations have not trickled down to day-to-day businesses like banks, ISPs, housing, government bureaucracy, etc..

That was back in the day though. Has this salary changed? We do not know. If anything, there are a lot of things we do not know about that salary. (Or, I am just ignorant as fuck.)
