The latest bullshit from the county I live in.
BREAKING NEWS FROM THE CARMEL PINE CONE
June 14, 2021, 4:05 p.m.
SOCIAL DISTANCING, BUSINESS LIMITS END TOMORROW
• Masks requirements loosen, especially for the vaccinated
With California's coronavirus crisis apparently
nearing its end — and with CDC saying the vaccines remain effective, even against
the new variants you hear so much about — Gov. Gavin Newsom's plan to
re-open California goes into effect at midnight tonight. (Don't give a flying fuck - STILL won't save him from being recalled. - JS)
"California is fully reopening the economy on June 15 – no more physical distancing, no more capacity limits on businesses, no more county tiers, and relaxed mask guidance," the California Department of Public Health announced. (Should have happened 15 April 2020. Fuck them and fuck Newsom. - JS)
Even a last-minute controversy over Cal-OSHA mask requirements at workplaces seems to have been resolved. The
San Francisco Chronicle reports Newsom intends to issue an order later this week eliminating mask requirements for fully vaccinated people at work even if they are likely to come into contact with the public or unvaccinated co-workers.
And speaking of the unvaccinated, for them
masks requirements remain the same, the CDPH said. (Maybe. Or maybe they won't want to fuck with people any more. - JS) To make an appointment to be vaccinated, go to

Here in Monterey County, the number of
new coronavirus infections has fallen to less than 1 per day per 100,000 residents, especially on the Monterey Peninsula, where some communities have had no new cases for weeks. See our "Cases by zip code" chart below for details.
We also have a chart for you showing the percent of residents in each of the county's zip codes who have tested positive for coronavirus since the epidemic began — ranging from 1.1 percent in Carmel-by-the-Sea to 23 percent in Soledad (see below). The overall average for the county is 9.6 percent.
