If you just transferred one embryo at a time, then if it didn't successfully implant you'd have to go through the procedure again, and it's not as simple as hopping back in the stirrups. Plus freezing the embryos when they're at the right stage for transfer can reduce the embryo's viability. That being said, it's only American doctors that really push for transferring 3+ embryos at a time (because they get more money for it), most other nations generally recommend no more than two.
