a) Who are these local friends? I don't think they've made themselves known.

Fortunately, he's bad at coming up with believable stories. It's like he knows what elements of victimization are the worst, and that he should harp on, but he doesn't know how to make them believable to other human beings--he always overdoes it. I've long suspected he's a malignant covert Narcissist, and the low empathy that is part of that keeps him from understanding the finer points of crafting a story that's believable to other people. Having Narcissistic grandiosity, he can't help but overdo it, shooting right past the bounds of believability.

Thanks, I think when I was undergrad they were teaching that COPD caused finger clubbing and “barrel chest”. That was a long time ago though.
