Japanese is stupidly complex but I think the pure ineffiency of Japanese curriculum is a significant factor as well. A good read nonetheless.

I gotta say though, apparently Karen used to teach English there. How'd she communicate at first? Wonder if she's a fast learner and stagnated or really gone to a country and a job where she could barely speak a word to a goddamn kid. Seems right on brand.

It's been amusing reading a bunch of non-Japanese speakers talk about the difficulty of the language and the curriculum etc.

Fun fact, though: most native English teachers in Japan are heavily discouraged from speaking Japanese in the classroom, and usually only have the job of assisting native Japanese English teachers who are much worse than you are with whatever they put on the itinerary for the day. Chances are Karen never learned Japanese because she straight up didn't need to.

As such, a lot of foreign workers who actually want to make something of themselves end up seeing out whatever dead-end program contracts got them in the country and finding different work. For some, it's better teaching opportunities than standing next to the real 'Sensei', flashcards in hand, listening to them fumble basic grammar, but for Karen it was DEMONDICE and whatever the fuck kind of part-time work she could grab to make ends meet.

As for Japanese itself - it isn't hard. Kanji is a fucking pain in the ass but a lot of the struggle comes from not knowing where to start, as materials feel scarce, incomplete, or locked behind expensive paywalls. The actual grammar and sentence structuring of written Japanese is extremely rigid, at least compared to English, making the process pretty fruitful until you have to wade through kanji and kun/on readings.

I firmly believe that if you put your mind to it, you could reach Calli's level of Japanese in less than a year.

A lot of you would benefit from calming your borderline gachikoi asses down and engaging in some other hobby for a while.

My theory is that Kiara insisted to do the same thing that Subaru,Suisei and Rushia does in the other branch, thing is that they work in the japanese scene that is already established on their own corporations, the english scene only has Vshoujo and can only be called "corpos" in the broad sense of the word
