I know that Bonnie is constantly going on about how he is considered the person of color since he's partially Puerto Rican, but he sure as hell looks white as white bread. And while yes the piece does take time to comment that trans people of color are particularly in danger, I will note that they never mention that Bonnie is "of color" or anything other than white bread like the rest of them. Just to add some figures, a local reckoned that the carrying capacity of that land was one head of cattle per 30-50 acres. The Tranch is 36 acres so could sustainably support one cow. To convert that into other animals there is a scale of LU or livestock units where a cow equals 1, a sheep 0.15 and an alpaca 0.3. If they got rid of their cow, their land grows enough vegetation to feed SIX sheep or THREE alpacas. On sheep alone they have twice as many as they can feed. They have over FIFTY (yes FIFTY) times the number of alpaca that the land can sustain. That's why it looks like it's been stripped by locusts.

Alpaca's are practically given away, they're pretty useless for commercial ventures, so its not hard to get a fuckton of them. Combine that with complete ignorance of agricultural process.

Really, the tranch is a great indictment for why a workers revolution and redistribution of productive land and resources is doomed. The Tranch has a budget functionally approaching limitless with their grifting, unrestrained by economic realities. They have an abundance of laborers who will work for shit food and shit accommodations. They have access to the total sum of human knowledge at their fingertips 24/7, its not like agricultural techniques are hard to come across. Hell, there's entire groups, governmental and otherwise, entirely dedicated to producing easy to consume literature about how to farm goodly.

They have every possible advantage to make this a successful place, and they built a concentration camp that's already committed a thorough genocide against the local ecosystem, while producing effectively nothing of value. That would be a slightly (slightly) better business model as fans of the tranch who don't knit/crochet would buy it, but that would require them knowing how to make things or spending money to outsource (plus felting the wool for insoles).

It seems like if you do nothing but shear alpacas for wool, if you did it right, you could turn a marginal profit, probably less than you'd make working at McDonald's, but you wouldn't have to work at McDonald's. It seems like the sort of thing an otherwise functional farm would do as a side deal for a little extra money and because they just happened to like alpacas.

I bet you could actually make a more decent amount of money if somehow you could control the whole supply chain, both shearing the alpacas themselves, carding and spinning the wool, and then making some kind of high quality finished products out of it that you could charge artisan prices for.

Not for Bonnie's gun because it doesn't recoil for shit but it's about having good habits so when you do fire a gun with real recoil, you can handle it. Leaning into the gun helps your body absorb the recoil better. Women and soy-influenced men lean away from the gun like it's going to bite them or some shit.
