At what point in Chantal's life do you think she said to herself: "fuck it." and gave up any semblance of effort, any modicum of supposed determination.

I think it's easy for us to say she's always been like this - but take a look at Chantal from 2017. Compared to current day Chantal, the 2017 version seems almost bearable, hardworking, and diligent. Of course she is none of those things, and this is relatively speaking, however I think it points to a steady downward trend where less and less effort is applied to her life, her channel, and her relationships. This degrading effort must have a start-point, and I'm interested in speculating where it might have started and why.

The reason for this is two-fold. One, because it's fun, and I'm all about having fun on the internet. Two, because she has much, much further to fall. It might be hard to believe she could go any lower. The Classic Chantal Cycle really is no longer applicable to her in her current state due to how low she has gone, but she still has a lot left to lose. She has her channel, Peetz, cats, and to a certain extent, her mother and family. My prediction is that in a couple of years all or most of these things will no longer be in the picture (assuming she's still alive and hasn't died of heart failure). When this time comes and she truly hits rock-bottom, I want to be able to connect a line between her internally giving up and this bottom-feeding state she will inevitably find herself in. It will serve as both humor and an interesting character study in what happens when one decides to no longer apply themselves in any way to their life.

My current theory is that this downward slide began right around the time she got fired from her admin job because her French was too poor. Unemployment of any kind severely fucks with peoples' heads and makes them feel like they're useless - "what's the point" - leading many to depression, suicide, or in Chantal's case, just not giving a single fuck. Of course there's the possibility that this all started when she was a teenager as well, and we will have no way of knowing what the specific genesis of her current state is, but I'd like to hear your speculation nonetheless.

I think there are a few identifiable points in her downward trajectory.

You're right -- losing her admin job was a major problem. Some people could have picked themselves up and made something of their YouTube channel after losing their ordinary job. And she did make some effort towards that at first. But she's lazy and the effort was too much and the reward too easy. She's not ambitious, hard-working, or even very smart so forward-planning and accountability is impossible for her. Most people don't have it in them to be freelancers or independent contractors/entertainers. Chantal especially is like a little child who needs to be babysat all day to keep her accountable.

Prior to this, meeting Bibi. Again, she made enough of an effort to cheat on Peetz, move in with Bibi, cheat on Bibi, and then "commit" to him. Then she got complacent with her "rock". By the time she fully replaced sex/dignity/fertility with food, he was stuck -- or so she thought.

Then when he left her, that was another major step down. She made the effort to re-trap Peetz, secure a "luxury condo" that she made a minimal effort towards decorating, then settled back into her eat/sleep/nothing else lifestyle.

In the future, I think we'll look at the Nader/coke arc as being another major indicator of her eventual collapse into obscurity, poverty, and eventual death.

Notably, none of her health scares/diagnoses or attempts at "getting help" are really significant milestones in the FB Journey to Doom.

I don't see much change in 2017 Chantal to 2021 Chantal other than she's gotten more comfortable and therefore just out o shits to give. She never was one to have goals, determination and she sounds as if she was always a nightmare of an employee. I think her starting her channel and the luck of her lasagna mukbang getting 500K views she was like "Wow I can do this mukbang thing, eat and chat and make money as I just lost my job? WOW". She admitted to collecting unemployment and had the severance. Then that ran out then it was she'd get a 'real' job after her surgery. Yet she kept getting subscribers and people paying to watch her eat and her bullshit drama cycles. This livestream shit is new but the concept is the same - maximum return for very little effort.

People like Marisa, KJ have been there from the beginning and they are too personally investedin her and going to be there until the end - whenever and whatever that is. I do think if there is a low for Chantal that pushes her too far out of her comfort zone is losing her Channel and no Youtube. It's become her social crutch, her income, and is now dependent on it to function as a half-assed adult. as she is incapable of even knowing what fucking day it is.

I don't think she was ever anyone with ambition. She literally cares about nothing and the whole time she spent at he juvie camp to get back at her mom and get the attention of Grams with the fake suicide is just reflective she's just not a person who can function normally due to whatever disorder(s) she has. Since there's drug speculation going on yet again I might as well ask a question requiring speculation:

In the past at different times she was on Vynase(an upper, right?) and Dilaudid/Hydromorphone (opioid) by prescription for weightloss and giant fucking cysts Pain respectively. On both those she claimed not liking how they made her feel, feeling drugged, etc., and so she ended them prematurely. So why is it different now with weed and meth/come/whatever? Because it's the only way she gets attention from Nader? Because she is bored enough with her Lifestil now, that feeling drugged, up or down, is an improvement? Or did she actually get cut off on those prescription Drugs by her Dr for being generally non compliant/warning signs of misuse or abuse and lied about it being her choice?
