Unpopular opinions about food

I love Captain D's.

Apparently that's high heresy among people of my age range (mid-20s). They just don't eat seafood in the first place (at all), and I only see old and middle-aged people in a Captain D's. They all claim it's the same as Long John Silvers, which it's not and nobody I know who eats at Captain D's consider them the same.
Back in the stone age of the 80s, they used to have a clam chowder that was the tits.

I blame it on children being raised eating chicken tenders and burgers and shit like that. They have a very narrow range of what they will eat and any meat or vegetable that falls outside of that is auto-rejected.
I love captain Ds and long john silvers, sadly there isn't one close to where I currently live. But whenever I know i'll be near one while driving I always stop. I love the hush puppies, fish, everything.

LJS is ridiculously uneven in quality and I rarely bother with them any more.

Something I miss? Arthur Treacher's. There is only one left.

I've never heard of Arthur's Treacher's. is that a UK thing? I'm in the states so yeah. I definitely think captain Ds is better than long john silvers, there was a weird period about ten years ago all the combo kfc/ljs/taco bell restaurants split apart and I don't know why. Thanks to the corona shut downs even more of these franchises are shutting down sadly.

I eat all my meat well done. Rare meat is hard for me to digest and gives me stomach cramps. I also spent lots of time on farms growing up, and then I went on to study soil science, microbiology and parasites as an adult so.... yeah. Wrigglers. And well done just tastes better anyway. Any random idiot can burn a steak on the outside and leave it raw on the inside and proclaim themselves a kitchen genius, but cooking a well done steak that falls apart on the fork is really hard to do.

No, it's purely American but you would probably only know about it if you were near boomer age. It was still somewhat Brit-based in that Arthur Treacher was a British actor who played characters like Jeeves, so it was vaguely British-themed, with the whole fish and chips thing. Jeeves basically lived on fish, you know.

They were always better than LJS though.

it must have been an east coast or purely west coast thing then. I've always lived in the southwest and midwest and I've never heard of it.

It’s like Roy Rogers. It used to be a National chain but good lord has it fallen. Now it’s exclusive to Maryland I think and after Covid I’d imagine it’s dead as fuck. Shame, the burgers were pretty alright.

They have it in the Midwest US. I’ve never been in one, but my Pa has told me about them.

i frequently see combo restaurants like that. We actually have a KFC/LJS in my town, but LJS is so bad (to me) that I just can’t eat it.

I like a toasted bun rather than overly soft bread that gets stuck in your teeth though. You dont have to butter it and griddle it but if you do, you get the toast on the inside surface of the bun and its better for spreading on mayo and other condiments, but unless you burn it the bun is still soft, its just got more bite and structure to it.

Really, if your bread is too toasted like that, you probably burned it.

Mayo is okay but if its real mayo its gotta be in moderation. Otherwise, if its just more for the texture or so your burger doesnt seem dry (if its a kinda shitty burger, like from some neighborhood cook out and its overcooked)--if its just for texture, I like avocado smashed up and spread on instead, its a similar flavor but I dunno I get to feel like Im being bougie or some shit.

Mayo is also better if youre mixing it with shit--I like to add either sriracha, chili paste, or actual hot sauce to it. But using miracle whip should be treated like real for real terrorism because it is.
If you do that you’ve basically recreated the sauce on a Wendy’s jalapeño burger.

I am russian, the only combo restaurant I saw was Hesburger (finnish burger chain, I only eat in there because they have rye bread burger) and Cinnabon. It smelled exactly like Satan's asshole inside.
There was a place referred to as TacoChickenHut in San Diego, on Coronado. It was a Taco Bell, KFC, and Pizza Hut in one location.
