I remember sometime in the 90's one woman struck out on her own but the company/studio owned the name and replaced her, can't remember who it was though. It's pretty funny in a James Bond kind of way. Imagine going to the video store and thinking "hell yeah, Anita Dark" and it's George Lazenby.

It's the same way as in pro wrestling. Wrestlers in the big promotions don't usually own their gimmicks, the promotion does.

There are some potential downsides. Erik Rhodes noted that 1) his stage name was picked by his first producer and 2) because he didn't do the research, he didn't realize that it had effectively locked him into the beefcake image because of the recognition/expectations associated with it. So weird, obviously fake porn names do have the benefit of managing expectations downward.

Erik Rhodes just sounds like a normal name so I can see why he'd agree to it without doing any research.

She come up with it herself but the name "Sydney Leathers" is absolutely revolting. If google or pornhub went "sorry, we didn't catch that, did you mean 'sydney leathers' or 'sweaty gumboots" I would take my chances with "sweaty gumboots" because they don't make me think about ass crack sweat and talcum powder pearls.

She, like so many other porn chicks, wears very heavy makeup in her shoots. Which is a kinda smart tactical move if you want to be less noticed when doing non-porn stuff.

I learned there is a union for porn workers, and it is headed by Alana Evans. I think she also has a daughter who became a porn star.

Speaking of Alana, the other day I read she got knocked up by lolcow Kurt Lockwood after shooting a scene with him. According to her, he forced himself onto her during the shooting so that he would inseminate her offscreen.
