I'd have to agree. Loudly proclaiming "I will not kill myself, if they say that's what happened I got Epstein'd!" and then actually doing it is exactly what he'd do. He also seemed nihilistic enough for suicide to not really bother him at that age. "Whatever, it was fun, time to pack it up", just like Thompson did.
Not much of a story IMO, but I'd be disappointed if he'd withered away in a hospital instead. I think he would too.
