Because it's government. They are not exactly the most competent bunch at getting anything done at all. Also, Epstein and the massive amount of "coincidences"/incompetence is still fresh in people's minds. Any high profile person who "offs themselves" in a prison is going to be looked at suspiciously.

Having a DMS just gives them time to crack it. If you have info that can bring down elites, just release it. You're dead anyway, and at least this way, the info WILL get out.
Assange had a DMS, and they obviously cracked it because he went away and no info ever came out. Dead Man's Switches are useless and provide a false sense of security.

I saw John Mcafee at a grocery store in the cayman islands a couple years ago. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

Yes...Those are not mutually exclusive in spite what you may think. You can simultaneously be incredibly powerful and influential, and at the same time utterly incompetent. Your current president (or the last depending on your stance) is a great example.
The Epstein suicide could not have been more coincidental as to throw shit all over. Cameras off, guards meant to be there, not there, prison mate, moved, list of people who want him dead, long. If the guy legitimately offed himself, then they did a bang up job of casting doubt all over it.

McAfee's ego was so big that there was no way he'd kill himself at least until after he had his day in court, so he could turn his trial into the biggest clown show the world had ever seen. There is no way he would willingly turn down the opportunity to do exactly that.
