The Earnest Evans one is genuinely one of the funniest things I've seen.
Riffing on longplays takes a lot of work though if you want to pull it off well. I imagine they just got tired of it.

Early Retsupurae was an obsession of mine because I hated letsplays at the time for the quality control reasons so it was fun to see someone take the piss out of that shit.
Golden era was honestly around 2011-2013/2014 for me with some classic rongupraes.

To this day retsuprae is the closest I have to snes9x. The closest I have to watching actual LPs without being driven to boredom. The insane snes9x. The insane shit they dug snes9x. I remember one retsupurae podcast with her on it with her yammering that she'd rather be in a world full of shitty SH games than the series to have ended on a high note if that gives you an insight into your consooooooomerism mindset.

I feel Slowbeef started self-censoring around the time he had his daughter, which in a sense I can understand because he might have wanted to set a better example for his kid by cooling off his online conduct, but I think he wound up going way too far up the trolls remorse pipeline, plus if his daughter ever searches him up she'll just find his most popular videos from the golden age anyways. The content has just steadily gone down in quality, with the last good series being the kickstarter review series, but Diabeetus completely carried that series on his back. Its sad to see Slowbeef being a husk of his former self.

SA acted like LPs were their thing even though they had been around before slowbeef coined the term.
Also I remember them butting heads with Pewdiepie and the first red flags of them becoming PC were shown back in 2012.

Beef and Diabeetus felt bad about that one. Slowbeef said they felt like hired assassins to go after Doug's horrible video. I'm under the impression they personally apologized to Doug which, they really shouldn't have. His Bart's Nightmare video was horrible. So horrible it warranted a follow up response video where he acknowledges how bad it was. If anything, Doug should have been mocked more for his terrible videos and he may have course corrected and never create Demo Reel or go in the direction of adding terrible sketches to Nostalgia Critic videos.

For the curious, it appears you can download a lot of Retsupurae from the Internet Archive: https://archive.org/details/RetsupuraeVideos The "Torrent" option though seems to be just one zip file and some xmls, rather than the actual videos, but the zip seems to have individual videos. Probably better that way as Internet Archive torrents almost never have seeders in my experience. Fortunately I already have a large amount of retsupurae on an external HD (including a lot of the ones people here have directly referenced, like Bike Path City and the Nostalgia Critic one).
Just last night I was re-watching the video "Great Video Game Idea!" (That's from the Gaming in the Clinton Years series... its the one where the dude suggests making a game about Lara Croft having breast cancer). Even though I'd seen this one before it somehow was still so funny it gave me hiccups.
Damn, it feels like there really was a golden age of internet content. As much as we might make fun of people like Doug, Spoony, AVGN and even slowbeef now, there was a time when they genuinely lit up our lives (or at least my life). Now the internet sucks, everything is too serious, in large part thanks to the woke crowd, not to mention copyright cracking down on everything. It's like, you basically can't do anything fun anymore.
The only youtuber from the old days I still like is Markiplier, though I only like him when he's with his friends--there was a time I liked watching him play horror games but I got bored of that (Markiplier himself is still fun, its just I can't stand how predictable and cliche the horror game genre has become).
